The Mountain of Sant Miquel, also known as the Muntanya de Sant Miquel, is a notable elevation near Rafelcofer in the Valencian Community of Spain. Rising to approximately 54 meters, this hill is crowned by the Ermita de Sant Miquel Arcàngel, a hermitage dating back to the 16th century. The hermitage was constructed atop the ruins of an earlier structure, believed to have been a Roman villa from the 1st century AD, making it a significant archaeological site that offers insights into the region's Romanization. [1]
The mountain is part of the natural-archeological route offered by the town of Rafelcofer, which includes visits to the local museum and the nearby El Rabat hill. This route allows visitors to explore archaeological remains from various periods, including Iberian, Roman, Arab, and Christian eras, all set within a picturesque natural environment. [2]
Hiking to the summit of the Mountain of Sant Miquel is a relatively easy endeavor, suitable for most visitors. The ascent is brief, and once at the top, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding Safor region, including landmarks such as the Mondúver mountain, the Montgó massif, and the coastal areas near Oliva. [3]
The Ermita de Sant Miquel itself is a point of cultural interest. Although it falls within the municipality of L'Alqueria de la Comtessa, it is owned by the nearby town of La Font d'en Carròs. The hermitage's historical and architectural significance, combined with the natural beauty of its surroundings, makes the Mountain of Sant Miquel a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking to experience the rich heritage and landscapes of the Valencian Community
