Miras Zhugunussov (also often spelled Miras Zhugunusov; Kazakh: Мирас Жүгінісов, Russian: Мирас Жугунусов) is a Kazakh singer born in the city of Oral.[1][2] He is known for his romantic songs.[3][4]
Early life
[edit]Miras was born January 20, 2000 in the city of Oral in Kazakhstan to Erbolat Zhugunussov (Kazakh: Ерболат Жүгінісов) and Ainur Zhugunussova (Kazakh: Айнұр Жүгінісова) and grew up in Astana.[5]
His father is a former choreographer and his mother is an actress, entrepreneur and chairman of the republican public association "Kazakh Analar - Dasturge Zhol" (Kazakh: Қазақ аналары – дәстүрге жол, translation: “Kazakh mothers - The Path to Traditions”).[6][7][5][8][9]
He is the second son of a family of four.[1] His older brother is Rustem Zhugunussov (Kazakh: Рүстем Жүгінісов), a former singer.[9] His younger brother, Muhammedali Zhugunussov (Kazakh: Мұхаммедәли Жүгінісов), is a singer who was a contestant in The Voice of Kazakhstan (Kazakh: Qazaqstan Дауысы) in 2023.[5][9][10]
Miras was involved in sports from a young age but revealed in an interview on the TABOO program (NTK) that a two-centimeter hole in his heart forced him to quit these activities. He also mentioned experiencing three episodes of facial paralysis at ages 6, 12, and 14. Additionally, around the age of 14-15, he was hit by a car.[11][4]
Career
[edit]Miras started his musical career as a member of the “Zhugunussov Brothers” (Kazakh: Ағайынды Жүгінісовтер, Russian: Братья Жугунусовы), a trio formed with his brothers Rustem and Muhammedali.[5][9][12] In 2014, they released their first music video for the song “Astana”.[13] They were active for a few years before stopping their activities together in the early 2020s.
In 2016, Miras recorded the Kazakh pop version of the OST “You’re Welcome” from the movie Moana by Walt Disney Animation Studios with his brother Rustem. Miras sings the rap part of the song.[14]
His solo career is said to have started between 2018 and 2021 depending on the sources.[12][15]
His producer is the blogger Aden Margulan (Kazakh: Әден Марғұлан).[1][2][7][16]
In 2018, he entered the contest “Discover Silk Road Star” in the city of Batumi in Georgia. After the result of three rounds, he shared first place along with Emilia Yagubova from Azerbaijan and Salome Mirianashvili from Georgia. It was Emilia Yagubova who ultimately took the victory home after drawing lots.[17][18][19]
In November 2019, Miras released his first EP called “Andetemin” (Kazakh: Әндетемін) and was awarded “Choice of the Year-2019”.[20]
In 2020, he released an album in collaboration with Murat Kabylov (Kazakh : Мұрат Қабылов) and Azaliya under the name "Andetemin Project." The album, titled Koroleva Severa (Russian: Королева Севера), features 9 songs entirely sung in Russian.
His first solo concert was held on March 6, 2022 in Baluan Sholak Sports Palace in the city of Almaty.[3][21] In this sold-out show, he sang a Russian song called “Son” (Russian: Сон) which still is not yet released. He also sang a duet with the singer 2RAR. The song, “Oilai Berem” (Kazakh: Ойлай берем) was co-written by them especially for the concert. The song was uploaded on Miras’ YouTube channel and has currently more than 10 million views. Miras continues to sing this song solo for many events.[16]
Both singers then held a concert together on October 29, 2022 in the capital Ulaanbataar in Mongolia.[22]
In February 2023, he released his second EP entitled "Sen-Em", in which he composed 4 songs out of the 5.[23][24] A lyrics video bringing together the 5 songs of the project was filmed in Los Angeles and is available on his YouTube channel.
His tour, “Miras Tour 2023” began on April 22, 2023 in Almaty and ended in May of the same year. For this tour, 10 concerts were given in 9 cities across Kazakhstan.[25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33]
In 2024, he held a tour in collaboration with the singer 2RAR. The two singers performed together on stage except in Almaty and Astana where Miras performed solo.[34]
Three of Miras’ songs are OSTs of Kazakh films. One of them is Sayahat (Kazakh: Саяхат) for the film Bari Oz Kolynda! (Kazakh: Бәрі Өз Қолыңда!), released in 2023. The two others are Sen Zhalgyz Emessin (Kazakh: Сен Жалғыз Емессің) for the film Ottegi (Kazakh: Оттегі) and Baqyt (Kazakh: Бақыт) for the film Kettik Barin Tasta (Kazakh: Кеттік Бәрін Таста), both released in 2024.
Miras composed the song Sen Suie Almadyn (Kazakh: Сен Сүйе Алмадың) performed by his brother Muhammedali, released in March 3, 2024.
Miras has sung in many events and festivals including the GAKKU Dauycy (Kazakh: GAKKU Дауысы) and the BEU Fest in the city of Almaty.[35][36][37]
