Liza Libes (born August 6, 1997) is an American writer, entrepreneur, and Internet personality. She founded Pens and Poison in 2024, and writes for Persuasion[1] and Minding the Campus.

Early Life and Education

Libes was born in Chicago, Illinois. She earned both her B.A. and M.A. in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University, focusing on the work of T.S. Eliot.[2] Her academic background has greatly influenced her literary work, particularly her poetry and essays.

Career

Libes is the founder and CEO of Invictus Prep, a college consulting startup that aims to help students navigate the college admissions process.[3][4][5] Libes works frequently with Jewish students. In The National Review, Libes discussed the trend of Jewish high school students reconsidering Ivy League aspirations due to campus antisemitism.[6]

Libes is also the founder of Pens and Poison, a literary newsletter and podcast that explores the intersections of humanities education, literature, and culture.[7][8]

As a poet, Libes has published a collection titled Illicit Kingdom, which is available on Amazon.[9] Her poetry has been featured in various publications, including The Jewish Book Council,[10] Willows Wept Review,[11] and Jewish Women of Words.[12] She is also listed in the Poets & Writers directory.[13]
