Linda Gammon is an American music educator and band director.[1]
Originally from Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, Gammon is recognized for her accolades in middle school band education. During her 30 year teaching tenure, her middle school bands appeared four times at the Virginia Music Educators Association, and twice at the Midwest Clinic in 1993 and 2000. Gammon and the Robinson Middle School Symphonic Band was awarded the Sousa Foundation's Sudler Cup, considered the most prestigious award a middle school band program can recieve.[1][2]
Gammon has a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Arts degree in conducting from George Mason University.[2]
Gammon is currently music director emeritus at the Virginia Winds Academy, where she served as director of the Junior Winds from 2014 till 2024.[2][3] She currently resides in Lake Frederick, Virginia.[1]
Contributions as author
[edit]Gammon has contributed as an author to "Teaching Music through Performance in Beginning Band - Volume 2" and the beginning band method "Band Expressions".[4][5]
Career
[edit]Gammon served as president of the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors' Association from 1996 till 1998 and of the Virginia Music Educators Association from 2002 till 2004.[6][7]
Gammon spent her career teaching in Prince George and Fairfax counties, however, she has appeared as a guest conductor throughout the country. In 2014, she was awarded "Director of the Year" by the Fairfax County Band Directors' Association.[8][9]
Her career includes a guest conductor appearance with the United States Navy Band in 2024.[9]
