- Chief Assistant at Southampton Chest Hospital (1961–1965).
- Senior Research Fellow at Southampton University (1965–1968).
- Senior Registrar at Harefield Hospital and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London (1968–1970).
Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon
In 1970, Moghissi was appointed Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull, where he established modern cardiothoracic surgery services. He served in this role until 1992, later focusing on thoracic endoscopy and laser services at Scunthorpe and Goole Hospitals Trust until 1997.
Pioneering Laser Surgery and Photodynamic Therapy
A pioneer in laser surgery, Moghissi was the first cardiothoracic surgeon in Europe to use a laser to remove secondary breast cancer from the lung without loss of lung tissue. In 1989, he was part of an international team introducing photodynamic therapy (PDT) for lung cancer in the UK and Europe.
