Kevin Calvin Wessels (born 22 February 1996) is a Namibian professional known for his work in social entrepreneurship, human rights advocacy, and public policy. His career spans various sectors, including legal practice, government service, and non-governmental organisations. Early Life and Education
Wessels was born and raised in Windhoek, Namibia, under the care of his grandmother, Elizabeth Wessels[1]. He spent parts of his childhood in Zambia[2] and South Africa[3]. Wessels holds formal qualifications in political science, law, telecommunications engineering, and accounting. These diverse fields of study have informed his multidisciplinary approach to professional and advocacy work.
Career
Wessels began his professional career in private legal practice, focusing on civil law. Subsequently, he transitioned into government service, where he gained experience in public administration and policy development.
Currently, Wessels serves as the Head of Public Policy and Legal Affairs at New Elementary Namibia, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to rehabilitating early childhood education centres in informal settlements[4]. In this capacity, he manages policy advocacy, legal administration, and stakeholder engagement. Additionally, he oversees legal administration for Equal Namibia[5] and Drag Night Namibia[6], organisations focused on promoting equality and inclusivity.
Advocacy and Social Initiatives
Wessels has been involved in various programs, including the Model United Nations[7]. He is also one of the facilitators of the Annual Activist School, hosted by the Economic and Social Justice Trust (ESJT)[8], which focuses on empowering activists through education and capacity-building.
