Jules “Pusso” Dugasse (born June 2, 1996, in Seychelles) is a Seychellois Singer, songwriter, and music producer known for his contributions to the dancehall and reggae music scenes. Over the past decade, Dugasse has gained recognition for his unique musical style, blending elements of hip-hop, reggae, and dancehall, establishing himself as one of Seychelles' prominent contemporary artists.
Early Life
[edit]Jules Dugasse was born in Seychelles and he grew up in the Anse Etoile district. He was raised in a family of five, with his mother, father, and two brothers. Jules attended English River School before pursuing his passion for the arts at the Seychelles Institute of Art and Design (SIAD), where he studied graphics design. His interest in music developed early, and he often blended his creative interests in visual arts and music.
Early Music Experiences
[edit]Jules’ first experience with performing music came at the age of nine when he participated in a talent show. He taught himself to play the piano, using it as a tool to enhance his music production skills. Over the years, he expanded his musical abilities, learning to play the guitar and experimenting with other instruments like the berimbau (bonm), drums, and jambe.
Starting in Music
[edit]In 2013, Jules officially began his music career, marking the start of his journey as an artist. In 2015, he and 3 other artists namely MV, Ti Boss and Jda formed a group called Louis Gang. Together they made local hits such as “Pa Vir ou Ledo lo mon” and they gained popularity, proceeding to win awards in 2017 for “Best collaboration” at the Airtel Music Awards and “Best Group” at the Cable Tune Awards. His big break came in 2018 with the release of his debut album, which included tracks like "Highway," a notable single that gained attention after the dissolution of his previous group, Louis Gang in 2018. Dugasse's music began to resonate with a wider audience, solidifying his presence in the music industry.
Musical Style and Evolution
[edit]Jules initially started his music career as a rapper, but he soon realized that this was not his niche, especially with many other Seychellois artists pursuing similar paths in the rap scene. Seeking a distinctive direction, Jules shifted his focus to dancehall music, drawing inspiration from artists like Champion and Ras Ricky. His first dancehall song, "Limenm Li Ah," marked the beginning of this new musical chapter. Jules' musical evolution is reflected in his growth as an artist, with his lyrics and beats evolving to reflect a more personal and original style.
Personal Life
[edit]Jules is in a relationship with Raina Nicette, who is also his manager. Together they opened Kingsize Multimedia which is in the process of changing its name to KP (King Pusso) Entertainment. Additionally, she is the mother of Asher, Jules’ fourth child among the other 3, Maya, Paris and Adidjah. Jules and Raina have worked together on several concerts from 2020 up to now, with their focus mainly on music production and event organisation.
