Jhargram Ashok Vidyapith (H.S.)
[edit]Jhargram Ashok Vidyapith (H.S.) is a government high school located in Balaramdihi, Jhargram, West Bengal, India. The school was established in 1950 and is affiliated with the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.

History
[edit]Jhargram Ashok Vidyapith began its journey in 1950 with 60 students in a rented house at Kendutala, Bamda, Jhargram. The school was founded by Late Birendranath Biswas, Late Surendranath Majumdar, Late Gopal Bhattacharya, Late Kailash Chandra Ray, and Late Chittaranjan Biswas. Late Kailash Chandra Ray served as the first headmaster.
The school was named after Emperor Ashoka, with its logo inspired by Ashoka’s emblem.
- 1952: Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee inspected the school and granted it junior high school status. He emphasized inclusivity by opening the school’s doors to all communities.
- 1953: The school shifted near Bamda Rail Gate (near Annapurna Mandir) and remained there until 1956.
- 1956: A fire destroyed the school building. The school relocated to its current location, on land donated by Md. Amir Ali, who ensured the institution welcomed Muslim students.
Subsequent developments included grants for infrastructure, leading to the construction of classrooms, a partial boundary wall, and a well.
- 1963: Upgraded to high school status under Headmaster Late Krishnendu Chaki.
- 2000: Introduced Higher Secondary (Arts) under Mr. Sukumar Paira.
- 2008-2009: Added Geography as a subject.
- 2015-2020: Under Headmaster Mr. Shyamal Kumar Bhui, the school introduced Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Modern Computer Applications, and Nutrition for the Higher Secondary section.
