Early life and background
[edit]Azad was born on April 7, 2006, in Reston, Virginia. His mother, Sudabeh Namazi, was an elementary school teacher, assistant nurse, and is currently a Kate Spade salesmen. His father, Alireza Azad, is currently a CFO. He has two siblings, Aurash Azad (male) and Elyca Azad (female). They are both graduates from UCI. Azad is 100% Iranian. His interest in film started at the young age of 5. "I remember it like it was yesterday", he claims. He recalls his parents buying him a Sony Handicam 9.2 for Christmas, as he ran about the house recording everything he saw. Ever since then, he always knew he wanted to become a filmmaker. His favorite film is Jurassic Park (1993). At age 17, Azad was the first of his family to win a film award for his animated short film ROTO(2023) which took home both the Best Animation and Audience Choice Award at the VHSL Film Festival, and Best Student Short Film at the Washington West Film Festival. Throughout high school, Azad made about eighteen to twenty different films.
Why film?
[edit]Azad has made it very clear through every statement: "I believe film is the most powerful media tool we have. But I believe we're using it wrong. Films nowadays are filled with gore/violence, sexual content, and other forces of negativity. In my films both live-action and animation, I try to focus on the overall messages portrayed throughout. I try to make my themes clearly understood. I try to portray emotions that both adults and children can understand in their own individual ways. I am a firm believer that there are morals we all as humans should understand. After all, cinema is a critical foundation of storytelling with the current generation".
