JJ Niemann is an actor, performer, and social media content creator. He is best known for his Broadway career and his social media presence.
Early life
[edit]Niemann is from Wilmington, North Carolina and graduated from Elon University in 2017.[1][2]
Career
[edit]Broadway and theatre
[edit]Three days after graduating from college, Niemann booked a Swing role in the Broadway production of The Book of Mormon, covering all seven ensemble tracks.[3] He made his debut in July 2017.[4] Neimann remained with the production full-time until December 2019.[5] He has returned as a vacation and emergency swing to the show periodically since leaving the company.[6]
In 2023, Niemann performed in the ensemble of the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Hercules.[7] Later that year, Niemann joined the Original Broadway Cast of Back to the Future.[8] He is an ensemble member and the understudy for both Marty McFly and George McFly.
In February 2024, Niemann participated in a workshop for the forthcoming Broadway musical Smash, based on the TV show of the same name.[9]
Social media
[edit]Niemann is one of the leading #BroadwayTok content creators, with more than one million followers as of January 2024.[10] His videos include behind-the-scenes looks at his life in the theatre as well as comedy and dance content.[11] He is well known for his "Broadway actors with their mics on/off" series.[12]
In December 2020, Niemann virtually participated in "Ratatouille: the TikTok Musical" with other Broadway stars including Andrew Barth Feldman, Andre De Shields, and Titus Burgess.[13] The virtual performance raised millions of dollars for COVID-19 relief.[2]
