Imgflip (pronounced "Image flip")[1] is a meme creator and a social media platform dedicated to creating and sharing internet memes which can come in the form of images, GIFs, demotivationals, pie charts, or artificial intelligence made images, released on June 29, 2011, by Dylan Wenzlau. The website also offers Imgflip Pro, a paid subscription for extra features. The website has been criticized by its drama and controversial users online.
History
[edit]Imgflip was founded by Dylan Wenzlau, the first time the Imgflip domain was registered was in June 14, 2008,[2] however, it had been left out and the domain was registered again in June 29, 2011.[3] The first meme featured the "Insanity Wolf" template and was published around the same time the site had been released.[4]
Templates
[edit]Templates are pre-existing images or videos that people can use to create their memes. There are 60 templates shown directly in the meme generator, but it is possible to click "View All Meme Templates (1,000's more...)
Streams
[edit]Streams in Imgflip are places that people use for specific-themed memes. The current default stream is the "Fun" stream.[5]
Points
[edit]Points allow you to get certain icons. (44 icons in total), you need an account to get them and you'll have some extra features:
- Posting in streams that require you to have 10,000 points.
- Using certain colors for custom icons (30 points for gray color, 500 points for orange color and 40,000 points for blue color).
- Using meme templates in a comment outside a popular one requires you to have 1,000 points.
- Timer penalty for commenting too much goes away after getting 1,000 points.
- Input personal taglines at 2,000 points.
Memechat
[edit]Memechat is a real-time messaging feature in Imgflip that allows users to communicate quickly, text is mostly used in messages, but certain small images can also be used. As of July 2024, this feature is still in beta.[6]
Imgflip Pro
[edit]Imgflip has a subscription model called "Imgflip Pro" that lets you have extra features by paying monthly/yearly.
Pro Basic
[edit]Imgflip also has the "Pro Basic" model that costs less but also gives you less extra features.
