Gretchen Gatan

Margaret Gretchen Gatan-Fragada, also known as Gretchen Gatan.[1], is a Filipino writer, editor-in-chief, content creator, and model [2] based in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She is the founder of Greta's Junkyard, a beauty and lifestyle blog that started in September 2013 and eventually expanded into an online shop [3] in September 2020. She is also the founder and editor-in-chief of The Metro Edit, an online fashion, beauty, and lifestyle magazine that began in July 2021.

Early Life

Gatan attended grade school and high school at Saint Pedro Poveda College, where she was part of the softball varsity, competed in national and international tournaments [4], and was awarded the Athlete of the Year during her graduation in 2007. Following her high school graduation, she became a Varsity Athletic Admission Scholar at the University of the Philippines Diliman, where she played softball and competed in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines while taking up a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing. After two years, Gatan transferred and finished her studies at the Ateneo de Manila University with a major in Creative Writing.

Gatan also started competing as an Ultimate Frisbee player in 2007 and was part of the National Team Player Pool to represent the Philippines in the World Ultimate and Guts Championship in 2012. She continues to play the sport leisurely to this day.

In 2016, Gatan took up Fashion Makeup at the Fashion Institute of the Philippines and completed a second diploma in Marketing at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.

Career

Gatan started her writing career as an intern for Summit Media and online publication, When In Manila [5]. Her first job was in 2012 when she worked as a Copywriter for a startup advertising agency based in Makati and was eventually promoted to Brand Communications Manager. She then gained more experience in 2014 as an Account Manager for a digital marketing agency based in Bonifacio Global City. In 2014, Gatan became the Marketing Manager of four beauty brands exclusively distributed by Glamourbox. Two years later, she became the Editor-in-Chief of an online beauty magazine and shop, Calyxta.

In 2020, Gatan became the Beauty Managing Editor for BeautyHub.PH [6] and from 2021 to 2023, became the Managing Editor of Modern Parenting.

Currently, she simultaneously runs Greta's Junkyard and The Metro Edit. She also creates content, models, and hosts. Additionally, she assists in the marketing and operations of her mother's backyard business [7], Mama Jessie's Kesong Puti.

Personal life

On September 13, 2019, Gatan married her boyfriend and former Ultimate Frisbee teammate and co-captain, Cayo Fragada [8]. Their wedding ceremony was officiated by Bishop Socrates Villegas and was held in Sta. Rita de Cascia Parish inside Philam Homes, while the reception followed at Seda Vertis North [9].

Gatan gave birth to a daughter named Cambria in 2021, named after her and her husband's favorite band, Coheed and Cambria, and after the font she uses to write short stories.

Greta's Junkyard

Greta's Junkyard started in 2013 as a creative outlet for Gatan where she could write about her favorite topics including beauty, lifestyle, travel, home, and pets. Since its birth, Gatan has collaborated with and became an ambassador for brands like Maybelline, L'Oreal, Dove, Cream Silk, PLDT Home, and Royal Canin.

Gatan was listed as a Top 10 Filipino Blogger [10] and a Top 20 Filipino Beauty Blogger [11]. She was also listed as one of 50 Instagram Influencers to Follow in 2019 [12]. She has appeared in several digital ads including Dove, PLDT Home, and Royal Canin [13]. She has guested in a couple of podcasts as well, including The Tao of Self Confidence [14] and The Wrestling-Wrestling Podcast [15]
