Gordon Brown Sr., born on May 5, 1936, in Charleston, South Carolina, is a golfer.[4] He was the first African American to win the Camp Leroy Johnson All-Infantry Golf Tournament in 1962.[5]West, Norrie (May 1997). 100 Years of Golf in San Diego County. San Diego: Library of Congress Catalog card No. 97-90873. pp. 212–213.

After serving in the U.S. Army, where he played on the military golf team, Brown moved to San Diego, establishing himself as an amateur golfer. He won multiple championships, including three consecutive San Diego Industrial Golf Championships, and retired to the Silver Cup, a award in local golf circles.[6]

In 1970, Brown founded the Southeast Junior Golf program, aiming to introduce local youth to the game and impart essential life skills.[7] This initiative evolved into the San Diego Inner City Junior Golf Foundation and Academy in 1996. Admiral Lawrence Chambers would be seen aiding Brown in his outreach for Brown's nonprofit.[8][9][10]

In recognition of his work, Brown was named an Honorary Life Member of the PGA Southern California San Diego Chapter.[11]
