George G. Brenkert is an American academic, a philosopher, and an expert in business ethics and social and political philosophy.
He is a professor emeritus at Georgetown University in the McDonough School of Business. During his tenure as Professor of Business Ethics at Georgetown he served as Director of the Business Ethics Institute within the McDonough School of Business. Prior to his tenure at Georgetown, Brenkert was a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Tennessee where he also served as Head of the department for seven years.
History
[edit]Active since the early 1970s in the field of business ethics and social and political philosophy, Brenkert has served as President of the Society for Business Ethics as well as the Editor-in-Chief of the Business Ethics Quarterly, the top business ethics journal in the US and abroad. His publications include five books and dozens of peer-reviewed journal articles.
Brenkert is a co-founder of two associations: Capital Area Business Ethics Network, an association of ethics and compliance officers in the Washington DC area, and the Transatlantic Business Ethics Conference, which brings a small select group of scholars from Europe and North America together every two years to discuss their latest work in the area of business ethics.
Acknowledgements for his achievements include the Presidential Award for Outstanding Scholarly Research[1] in the Field of Business Ethics from the Society for Business awarded in 2020. In 2013 he received the Society for Business Ethics award recognizing him for a Career of Outstanding Service to the Field of Business Ethics.
