The expedition to Gotland in 1446 was initiated by King Christopher of Bavaria. At the time, Gotland was controlled by the ex-king, Eric of Pomerania.

[edit]Ambitions over Gotland
[edit]In one of Christopher of Bavarias promises as king, he pledged to recapture Gotland and hand it back to Sweden. It is also of importance to the Kalmar Union to not allow Gotland to fall into non-nordic hands.[1][2]
