Dr. Rajiv Ranjan

Dr. Rajiv Ranjan (born 09 September 1965) is an Indian Economist and Central Banker. He has a varied and extensive professional knowledge in the areas of macroeconomic policies, market operations, and policy research including monetary and fiscal policy, real and external sector, and the international affairs related to the IMF/G20/BIS.

Early life and education

Born in Jamshedpur he obtained his Masters in Economics from Delhi School of Economics and Doctorate from University of Mumbai with his thesis titled "Modeling Capital Account of India's Balance of Payments within the Framework of the Macroeconomic Model of the Indian Economy".

Personal Life

He is married. They have a son and a daughter. Their son is married and settled in Melbourne while their daughter is in Austin, Texas.

Career in RBI

Dr. Ranjan joined Reserve Bank of India in 1989 as a Grade B officer. He has experience working in several departments of the RBI including the Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR), the International Department, the Department of External Investments and Operations (DEIO) and has also served as an Economic Policy Expert in the Central Bank of Oman. As a current member of the Monetary Policy Committee (India) and earlier as Secretary to the MPC he has helped in shaping the macro-economic policies and managed the growth-inflation balance while implementing the goals of a flexible inflation targeting framework. Dr. Rajiv Ranjan was elevated to the post of Executive Director of the Reserve Bank of India of the Monetary Policy Department in 2022 and also nominated as an Ex-officio Member of the Monetary Policy Committee (India) of the Reserve Bank of India.
