Donald Brodkey (January 17, 1910 – October 9, 1989)[1] was a justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court from his appointment in 1974 to fill a vacancy on the court until his retirement in 1982.
Born in Sioux City, Iowa, Brodkey received his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1933, and entered private practice in Omaha, Nebraska.[2]
He was elected a municipal judge in 1956, and to the district bench in 1960. He won reelection in 1965 and 1970.[2]
On March 14, 1974, Governor J. James Exon appointed Brodkey to a seat on the state supreme court vacated by the retirement of Justice Robert L. Smith, making Brodkey "the first Jewish Judge ever named to the State Supreme Court".[2]
