Biography
[edit]Personal life
[edit]Danyl, whose middle names are Mohamed and Yassine, was born on 25 October 1998 in Saint-Maurice in the Val-de-Marne[1]. He comes from an Algerian family, specifically of Kabyle and Sahrawi origins, but grew up in France, in Créteil, Val-de-Marne, and later in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.[2][3]
Musical childhood
[edit]From a young age, Danyl started playing piano at a local youth center. A few years later, he joined the Conservatoire de Paris, where he completed a very traditional and rigorous training in musical theory. He also played classical piano. His mother, trained as a pianist, forced him to attend these lessons. "I sulked at first, but today I thank her for insisting."
He explains that he comes from a family and culture with a great musical heritage, such as raï and chaâbi. At home, the records of Cheb Hasni, Cheb Mami, and Khaled were played continuously.[2] His mother also enjoyed French chansons and English rock. It was his uncles who introduced him to rap.[4]
His love for music grew when he realized that he could create his own works instead of just performing others' pieces, which he didn’t particularly enjoy. At the age of thirteen, Danyl started composing his first productions. This was his gateway into professional music, with artists like SDM, Ninho, and Bianca Costa performing on his tracks.[2]
Career
[edit]Beginnings in rap (2018–2020)
[edit]To cope with the frustration of seeing his productions go unused, Danyl decided one day to put his own voice on them[4]. He launched his music career under the name Hashey Sen.
He released his first EP, Appels manqués (7), which was noticed by Raplume: “Polished instrumentals, impactful lyrics, and a pleasant flow—all the ingredients are there for a successful project”.[5]
Later, Hashey Sen released the project Partition, a title that echoes his musical beginnings with piano and theory, released in January 2020, along with two previously released tracks, Barcelona and Unité.[6]
All of this helped Hashey Sen appear in two YouTube videos by Quebec creator Mahdi Ba: Listening to the amazing tracks of my subscribers on December 12, 2018, and Listening to the rap of my subscribers on May 9, 2019. The first featured Barcelona, and the second Unité. These appearances increased his visibility.
Beatmaker period (2020–2023)
[edit]Starting in summer 2020, Danyl stopped releasing music for many months. However, he remained active, offering his beatmaking skills to others. In 2021, he produced several tracks for Bianca Costa, Asakura, SDM, and seven tracks for Seth Sad.[7]
The Covid-19 pandemic lockdown allowed him to increase his productivity even more. During two months, he spent all his days in his parents' house, turning his bedroom into a studio. "I learned to be more precise, like an athlete training. I made beats every day, watched tutorials, and learned new mixing and composition techniques".[4]
The year 2022 continued with him producing tracks for other artists, including six tracks for Bianca Costa and two for SDM. That year, Danyl was also credited for writing nine songs, some of which he also produced.[7]
Khedma (2023–2024)
[edit]Danyl returned as a performing artist under his real name, Danyl, resuming Twitch livestreams in April 2023.[8] Every other Sunday at 8 PM, he creates music live with his fans, covering everything from composition, topline, writing, production, and recording. Soon, he announced two new songs.
Two months later, with only two songs released, he announced his first solo concert date at La Maroquinerie. The show sold out, and Danyl announced performances at Gaîté-Lyrique, along with opening acts (Tif, Favé, and Bianca Costa) and first-time choreography. -time choreography.[9]
