David Toritseju Tonayan (born October 3rd, 1995), Known professionally as Codest Boi, is a Nigerian Musician, singer-songwriter and producer. He is known for his 2019 project, Johanna.

which debuted at No. 1 on Modern Ghana and The Nigerian Voice audio charts in 2019.[1][2] On March 15, 2019, he collaborated with popular Nigerian artist Teni on their project Laye Mi.[3]

Early Life

David Tonayon was born on October 3, 1995, in the outskirts of Lagos State, Nigeria.[4] He grew up in a close-knit family of six as the youngest child, where he received strong support and encouragement from his parents and older siblings. His early exposure to music came from his father, who often played songs by Fela Kuti, sparking Tonayon’s passion for Afrobeat—a genre that would later become central to his musical identity.[5][6]

Codest Boi attended the University of Benin (UNIBEN), where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mass Communication.[4]

Career

Codest Boi began his musical journey in 2011 with the release of his first song, “Ajara.”[5] In 2018, he officially launched his professional career on Spotify under the stage name Codest Boi. On June 15, 2018, he released his debut single, “Jaye.”[7] On October 12, 2018 he released "Gradually."[8] On March 15, 2019, Codest Boi collaborated with Teni on their project titled Laye Mi. The pair had worked on the project earlier and released it in 2019, following Teni’s notable rise in the Nigerian music industry.[9][10][11] On September 13, 2019, he released a solo project titled "Johanna," which debuted at No. 1 on the audio charts of Modern Ghana and The Nigerian Voice.[1][2][12][13][14][15]
