Career

Turchin previously worked as a public school teacher in southern Los Angeles, California, as well as a probation officer, a civil litigator, and an Assistant United States Attorney.[3] She attended UCLA and UC Berkeley for her undergraduate degree, and received her Lifetime Teaching Credentioal at UCLA. She attended Loyola Law School for her graduate degree, graduating in 1978.[3]She has stated she was influenced by her father, who often paid more on his income taxes than required, leading her to want to make a change in the community.[4]

She has notably stated that she believes Attorneys behave as though California's Local Rule 37 is ambiguous, and has made a list of instructions in her Notice to Counsel.[5] She has rarely assigned monetary sanctions due to the belief that they are unhelpful when resolving disputes.[3]
