Prelude
[edit]Hardeep Singh Nijjar was an advocate for an independent Khalistan state for the Sikhs living in India. On June 18, 2023, he was assassinated. Canada alleges that India was responsible for the attack. The two countries started a series of negotiations that would later break down, leading to the expulsion of in total, 12 diplomats from both sides.
Expulsion
[edit]On October 14th, Canada's prime minister, Justin Treadeu, announced the expulsion of 6 Indian diplomats. This was followed by the India expelling 6 Canadian diplomats in response.
