Early Life and Education

Binwell Chansa Mpundu was born on October 9, 1982, at Ronald Ross Hospital in Mufulira, Zambia. He is the son of Mr. Binwell Mpundu Sr. and Mrs. Charity Mumba. Growing up in a modest environment, he developed a strong work ethic and a dedication to community service. His primary education began at Mumbezi Primary School in Solwezi, followed by Lima Primary School in ZNS Camp, Kitwe. Mpundu completed his junior secondary education at St. Mary's Basic School in Kawambwa and graduated from Kawambwa Boys Secondary School in 2000.

He then pursued further education in accounting, completing the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) Accounting program (NATECH) from 2003 to 2004. Following this, he attended the Zambia Institute of Business Studies and Industrial Practice (ZIBSIP), where he achieved the Licentiate level. In 2008, he graduated with merit from the University of Zambia with a diploma in Law. Although he began an LLB degree at the Zambia Open University, he decided to pause his studies due to his increasing involvement in politics.


Professional Career

Mpundu's professional journey began in 2004 with World Vision, where he worked on the Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Support Program, emphasizing community development in Kawambwa. He then transitioned to Thochima Enterprises Group, starting as an Assistant Accountant and eventually rising to the position of Group Chief Accountant.

In addition to his corporate experience, Mpundu has ventured into entrepreneurship by founding Lwamwa Contractors and Suppliers, where he serves as Managing Partner, and Shaun Suppliers and Contractors Ltd, where he holds the role of Managing Director. Through these businesses, he has played a significant role in job creation and fostering economic growth in the local community.


Political Career

Binwell Mpundu began his political career in 2000 with the Zambia Republican Party, led by Benjamin Yoram Mwila. In 2007, he transitioned to the Patriotic Front (PF) under former President Michael Chilufya Sata, where he served as Deputy Campaign Manager, playing a key role in the successful election of Nkana MP Luckson Kazabu during the 2011 General Elections.

In 2016, Mpundu was appointed as the Provincial Youth Secretary and, the following year, he became the District Commissioner for Kitwe, making history as one of the youngest individuals to hold this position in Zambia. He remained in this role until March 2020, earning recognition for his efforts to improve local governance and community welfare.

In 2021, Binwell Mpundu declared his candidacy as an independent for the Nkana Constituency. He won the parliamentary election on August 12, demonstrating his strong rapport with voters and his dedication to addressing their concerns.
