Bernard Ernest Ablitt (28 August 1895 – 17 April 1939) was the president of the Singapore Cricket Club, a partner of Fraser & Co., a major with the Straits Settlements Volunteer Force and a prominent rugby player.
Early life and education
[edit]Ablitt was born in Wimbledon, London on 28 August 1895.[1] He began enlisted the military during World War I in August 1914. As a member of the fifth battalion of the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire, he served in France from 1915 to 1918 and then in the Army of Occupation until 1919, being discharged in December of that year.[2] In November 1916, he was conferred the Military Cross for "conspicuous gallantry in action."[3]
Career
[edit]Ablitt came to Singapore in 1920. He was then employed at the firm Barker & Co.[2]
