Balurghat Lalit Mohan Adarsha Uchcha Vidyalaya is a higher secondary school for boys & for girls(for class 11 & 12 only) situated at the Ward no. 8 of Balurghat Municipality in Dakshin Dinajpur of West Bengal.[3]

History

[edit]

Balurghat Lalit Mohan Adarsha Uchcha Vidyalaya, founded in 1949 in Beltala Park, Balurghat, initially served displaced families post-partition. With growing student numbers, a benefactor donated land for expansion, and the school was named in honor of his father. Esteemed headmasters like Dhiren Kundu and Abhijit Mukherjee have played pivotal roles in fostering academic excellence[4][5], making the school a regional educational beacon.[6]

Curriculum

[edit]

Balurghat Lalit Mohan Adarsha Uchcha Vidyalaya follows a WBBSE and WBCHSE-aligned curriculum, providing education from class 1 to 12 with Bengali as the medium of instruction[7]. Classes V to X cover diverse subjects, including languages, sciences, mathematics, and physical education. For classes XI-XII, students choose from Science, Arts, or Commerce streams with electives like Physics, History, Accounts, and more. Starting in 2024, the school introduced courses in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to promote AI awareness and education.[8][9]

Campus & Infrastructure

[edit]

Balurghat L. M. A. U. Vidyalaya spans a 3-acre campus with a 5-acre school ground. It boasts over 40 modern classrooms, a 1,000-book library, an auditorium, a computer lab, an ATAL lab (first in the district), and advanced physics, chemistry, and biology labs. Two playgrounds support daily activities and sports events. The on-campus hostel accommodates 30 students, ensuring a structured and supervised environment. The ATAL lab fosters innovation under the Atal Innovation Mission.[10]

A special annual football match with Balurghat High School highlights the town's spirited rivalry.[12]
