In the 2018–19 MPBL season, the Bacoor City Strikers joined the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League as an expansion team, setting up the league's first intra-provincial rivalry between them and the Imus Bandera, as the league's two Cavite-based teams.
The rivalry was lopsided in favor of Bacoor City, who won all four meetings against Imus before departing from the league after the 2023 season, ending the rivalry.
Background
[edit]The Imus Bandera were one of the league's charter teams for its inaugural season in 2018. The season after that, the league entered its national expansion, and the last team from that expansion was the Bacoor City Strikers. This made Cavite the first province to have two teams competing in the MPBL.
