Babila Spagnolo

[edit]

Babila Spagnolo (born in Milan, 1977) is an Italian entrepreneur, CEO, and art director of Layla Cosmetics, a historical company in the beauty industry, founded in Milan in 1936. She represents the third generation leading the brand, combining family tradition with significant innovations that have made the company a landmark for excellence and creativity in the Italian beauty industry.[1] As a fashion and makeup enthusiast, Babila transformed these interests into a successful career by blending tradition, technological innovation, and modern communication.[2]

Biography and Education

[edit]

Babila Spagnolo grew up in Milan and completed her International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. After two years of psychology studies, she dropped out of university to start a long training path within her family’s company, founded by her grandfather, Emanuele Rossetti. Starting with humble roles in the warehouse, production, and order management, she gained in-depth knowledge of every aspect of the business. During this time she met Alessandro Di Fuccia, an expert cosmetologist and current head of research and development at Layla Cosmetics, who became her husband and professional partner. After 12 years as Export Manager and 5 years as Italy Sales Director, Babila takes over as CEO in 2019. [3][4]

Career

[edit]

Career at Layla Cosmetics

[edit]

As CEO, Babila Spagnolo has led Layla Cosmetics towards an era of innovation and growth. Under her leadership, the company expanded its product range to include skincare and opened the Layla Store in the Brera district of Milan, a space that combines retail and high-quality beauty treatments. She also introduced strategic collaborations with unconventional influencers, such as Rocco Siffredi, Fedez, and Tommaso Zorzi, standing out for a bold and original communication style.[5]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she launched the #restaacasaconlayla initiative, offering free online makeup and nail art courses. Her daily social media live sessions built a strong connection with customers, making Layla Cosmetics one of the few brands to successfully reinvent itself during a global crisis.[6]

In 2022, Layla Cosmetics was recognized as a "Historic Brand of National Interest”, an important milestone that celebrates over 50 years of the company's history.[7]

Other Roles

[edit]

In 2021, Babila was nominated President of the "Gruppo Cosmetici per l’Estetica," an organization that encloses 84 companies in the professional beauty industry, promoting their growth and representing their interests. This position was previously held by Fabio Berchi, CEO of Sifarma.[8]

Vision and Innovation

[edit]

Babila has revolutionized the brand’s language, making it inclusive and accessible, with a focus on authenticity and diversity. Under her leadership, Layla has introduced over 2,500 products produced in its Milanese labs, maintaining a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and innovation. The brand's mission remains twofold: offering excellent products while promoting values of solidarity and mental and physical well-being.[9]

Women's empowerment

[edit]

Babila Spagnolo is the second woman to lead Layla Cosmetics, succeeding her mother Emma Rossetti. Under her leadership, the brand has continued to firmly uphold the value of women's empowerment, a principle that has always characterized the company's philosophy.[10]

Layla Cosmetics stands out for its innovative and unconventional communication, far from the traditional ways of promoting beauty products, which often point to idealized images of perfect and unattainable models. The brand promotes authentic and natural beauty. It targets real, “normal” and beautiful women, using natural images. The goal is to communicate a message of empowerment: anyone can be a model, and Layla makeup is for everyone. This inclusive and transparent approach celebrates beauty in its freest and most spontaneous form, which Layla calls #freevola. Tying the brand to empowerment initiatives is nothing more than coming together to achieve a common goal: the freedom to be and become what you want.[11]

Starting from the 2024/2025 season, Layla Cosmetics has become the main sponsor of the Diavoli Rosa women's volleyball team. This partnership is based on the message of empowerment encapsulated in the motto “Freevola,” which embodies the idea of freedom, courage, and the ability to soar to new heights. Through this partnership, Layla reinforces its commitment to supporting women in sports, promoting values such as determination, authenticity and teamwork, perfectly in line with its inclusive and disruptive philosophy.[12]
