Antonio Gambaro (born 4 June 1946) is an Italian legal scholar. He is Professor Emeritus of Civil Law at the University of Milan[1] and a National Member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.[2]

Education and academic career

Gambaro completed his studies at Collegio Ghislieri in Pavia.[3] From 1976 to 1980, he held the position of Professor of Private Law at Bocconi University in Milan and the University of Parma.[4]

In 1980, he was appointed Associate Professor of Comparative Private Law at the University of Turin, where he later became Full Professor. He was subsequently appointed Full Professor of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Milan.[3]

From 2003 to 2012, he held the position of Professeur Invité at Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas University. In 2005, he was appointed Global Law Professor at University College London. He has also conducted research as Visiting Scholar at Stanford University (1974, 1988), Yale Law School (1980, 1982), and the University of California, Berkeley (1991, 1995, 1998).[3]

  • Director of the Institute of Civil Law at the University of Milan (2004)
  • General Rapporteur on multilingual legislation at the International Congress of Utrecht (2006)
  • Member of the International Reviewers Panel at the University of Helsinki (2005)
  • President of the Advertising Self-Regulatory Authority
  • President of the Milan College of the Banking and Financial Arbitrator[3]

Research activities

His scientific work has primarily focused on comparative private law, with particular attention to property law and real rights.[4] He has taught courses and delivered lectures at numerous international universities, including VU Amsterdam, the University of Coimbra, Universidad Externado de Colombia, Goethe University Frankfurt, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, University of Haifa, Catholic University of Leuven, and Utrecht University.[3]
