Antioch Pizza Shop was originally in 1977[1]. The restaurant was established on Route 59, just south of Route 173, in Antioch, Illinois.[2] From its inception, the pizzeria became a local culinary landmark, known for its distinctive pizza styles.

Ownership Transition

[edit]

In 2008, the restaurant underwent a significant transition when husband and wife duo Art and Karen Wicklein acquired the business.[1] Despite the change in ownership, the new proprietors committed to preserving the original recipes and culinary philosophy that had made Antioch Pizza Shop a community favorite.[3]

The Antioch Pizza Shop franchise model is distinctive for its emphasis on creating warm, welcoming spaces where local communities can gather. This philosophy has been integral to the brand's expansion strategy, which has seen the restaurant grow from a single location to 10 restaurants across the Midwest and Florida.[4][1]

Recognition

[edit]

In 2024, Antioch Pizza Shop achieved significant recognition by winning the Chicago Pizza Madness Tournament, hosted by WGN Radio. This award further solidified the restaurant's reputation for exceptional pizza in the Chicago metropolitan area.[5]
