Dr Andrew James Amos is an Australian psychiatrist, academic and political commentator based in Townsville.[1] Numerous articles in the Australian print media have discussed his published views on: Indigenous mental health, psychiatric training processes, and the lack of evidence underpinning gender affirming interventions for children with gender distress.[2] [3] [4] [5][6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14]

Amos has also appeared on Sky News Australia to provide expert commentary on social issues such as gender interventions for children.[15]

Amos is deputy editor of the journal Australasian Psychiatry.[16] He has authored or co-authored over one hundred journal articles on a wide range of topics, including: emergency psychiatric care, intellectual disability, early psychosis, involuntary treatment, neuropsychiatry, Indigenous health, youth suicide, psychotherapy, gender interventions, psychiatric training, climate change, dementia, anxiety disorders and acquired brain injury.[17]

Amos is Chair of the Queensland Section of Rural Psychiatry, Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).[18]
