However I did not decline due to my last bullet below which I am unsure of* I do not see evidence of wide citation * I see he is contributing to emerging trends and new techiques but not claims that he is the originator of these techniques * None of the sources appear to be independent periodicals* The work does not appear in a permanent exhibition* The work does not appear to be a **substantial** part of a **significant exhibition** . Amir Bastan (born 1991) is a media artist. Bastan completed a fine arts degree at Sooreh Art University in Tehran and later a Master's in media arts at the University of Arts Linz, where he is currently pursuing a PhD in Creative Robotics.[1] His projects include The Human Robot Transference, which explores psychoanalytic themes in robotics,[2][3] and The Bunraku Project, a platform for real-time robot control and visualization.[4][1]
Bastan's installations have been exhibited internationally,[1][5] including contributions to the Ars Electronica Center and Festival in Austria, where he has presented works on human-robot interaction and media arts.[6][7][8][9][10][6][11]Other exhibitions include the 2013 International Film Festival Rotterdam, featuring his early work Worn Out Mirrors,[12] and Festival X in Dubai, where he exhibited Vanishing Mediator, led workshops, and moderated panels.[13][14]
Bastan's work has received awards, including an Honorary Mention from Prix Ars Electronica (2024) for ZOE, created with Noor Stenfert Kroese,[15][16] and the Media Architecture Biennale (MAB) Award for ZOE in 2023 in the category Future Trends and Prototypes.[17][18] He also contributed to the KUKA Innovation Award and received the Austrian Federal Sustainability Award as part of the Fashion & Robotics team.[19][20]
Bastan is also a lecturer at the University of Arts Linz and the NODE Institute in Berlin.[21][22] His research has been published in venues such as IEEE VR and SIGGRAPH Asia.[23] His artworks have been referenced in studies on augmented and postdigital spaces, contributing to discussions in new media and digital arts.[24]
In addition to his artistic and academic work, Bastan has presented at various cultural and innovation platforms, including WAAG Futurelab in Amsterdam as part of the VOJEXT EU and S+T+ARTS artist talks,[25][26][27] Theater Rotterdam's The Unknown Sessions,[28] and Innovation Hauptplatz Linz as part of the SciEnCity initiative.[29]
