The American Communist Party (ACP) is a social conservative and communist political party in the United States. ACP formed in 2024 when its members split from the Communist Party USA (CPUSA).
ACP is notable for its "MAGA Communist" ideology, which combines far-left and far-right stances.[2][3]
Notable ACP members include Jackson Hinkle.[3]
History
[edit]From 2022 to 2024, a group of socially conservative socialists attempted to join and remake CPUSA, in order to "reclaim" the party from "liberals, federal agents and Democrats".[2] Group members included "American Conservative Marxist–Leninist"[4] online influencer Jackson Hinkle and "patriotic socialist" streamer "Haz" of Infrared.[2] Most of this group became members of Caleb Maupin's Center for Political Innovation (CPI), which collapsed in August 2022. In May 2024, the 32nd CPUSA National Convention passed Resolution 5, which supported a "broad front to defeat Trump [and] Trumpism".[5]
In July 2024, this group split and created the American Communist Party. ACP claimed that CPUSA had violated democratic centralism and opposed CPUSA's support for the Democratic Party.[6] Founders included Jackson Hinkle,[3][7] Haz,[3][8] and former Party of Communists USA (PCUSA) leader Christopher Helali.[6]
Hinkle claimed that CPUSA had expelled him.[9] CPUSA claimed that Hinkle had never joined the party, beyond signing up for their newsletter, and that Hinkle did not reflect CPUSA values.[9] ACP also claimed that 26 CPUSA clubs had split with them.[10] CPUSA denied this,[10][11] and at least 10 CPUSA clubs listed by ACP's declaration explicitly denied signing it.[10][12] CPUSA later called ACP "a small[,] exclusively online movement".[11][13]
In August 2024, ACP joined the World Anti-Imperialist Platform (WAP),[14], which Maupin's CPI and Helali's PCUSA had previously done. WAP is run by the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela.
Ideology
[edit]ACP identifies as a Marxist-Leninist party.[6][15] However, ACP does not does not explicitly oppose capitalism or support socialism in its party program or party constitution.[15][16] Other socialist groups have labelled ACP as "a red-brown alliance",[11] "National Bolsheviks",[11][17] or "fascists".[2][17] Alexander Reid Ross labelled MAGA Communism "a deranged fringe movement that doesn’t really have a great deal of articulation".[2]
ACP's program calls for the nationalization of large corporations, "AI-driven national economic planning", a right to refuse vaccination, "the abolition of the University-Industrial Complex", an end to "mass immigration" in favor of "population exchanges on a rational and planned basis", a ban on genetically modified food, "compulsory military training" in People's Militias, abolition of sex work, and annexation of Canada.[16]
ACP supports social conservatism.[2] For example, ACP founder Jackson Hinkle stated that "we need to protect our youth from trans terrorists and propagandists".[2] All 10 founders of the ACP are men.[3] ACP leader Haz said they are not "against women", but oppose the "effeminization" of men.[2]
