Alex Mahr
[edit]Alex (or: Alexander) Mahr (born: 6 August 1977) is a German entrepreneur and investor, probably best known for co-founding and building the international professional services firm Stryber.
Mahr's professional journey comprises multiple positions through which he compounded a framework for managing innovation in risk-averse environments, such as large corporations, sovereign wealth funds and other strategic investors. His insights are carried forward in his advisory work as well as frequent thought leadership pieces, e.g. articles or speaker assignments.[1][2][3]
He started the corporate part of his career by joining the strategy consulting firm Roland Berger in Germany in 2005, then joining the telecom incumbent operator Swisscom in Switzerland, and later co-managing the corporate venture capital and M&A initiatives of PubliGroupe, Switzerland. With launching a corporate startup out of PubliGroupe, the advertising technology provider Spree7 (later acquired by MediaMath which was later acquired by Infillion), he closed the corporate chapter and opened the entrepreneurial chapter of his career.[4] The next startup Mountaindayz, a platform for discounted ski tickets, was liquidated after failing to raise funding in the aftermath of the collapse of Groupon-like business models in Europe.[5] He continued to work as an advisor to corporates on multiple innovation problems until he co-founded Stryber in 2016, where he could offer solutions to these problems more systematically. He stayed with Stryber as a managing partner developing their operations in Europe and later building the Middle Eastern and Asian business until 2024. Today, he is an independent advisor, board member and investor.
Mahr obtained multiple post-graduate degrees from his hometown University of Augsburg (Germany) and her partner institution University of Dayton (USA).
