At around 6:37 p.m. MST on September 6, 2024, a fire started at the One&Only Moonlight Basin Hotel, a luxury hotel in Big Sky, Montana which is set to be complete in 2025,[2] on the third floor of the west building of the resort.[3] Firefighters from the Big Sky Fire Department were dispatched at 6:37 p.m., and over 20 personnel and 40 fire units arrived at the One&Only and countered the fire. The fire was controlled at 7:51 p.m.[4]
A week long, interagency investigation was held to determine the cause of the fire, and the investigation concluded that the fire was "accidental due to hot work (welding operations) on a metal screen on one of the balconies several hours earlier in the day".[5] The fire resulted in an estimated $7.5 million in damages, while $48.5 million in property remained undamaged by the fire.[6]
