Dhupguri subdivision is an administrative division of Jalpaiguri district in the state of West Bengal, India.
History
[edit]The subdivision was earlier part of Jalpaiguri Sadar subdivision. Following the death of Bishnu Pada Roy who is a local Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Dhupguri, a bye-election was called in 2023. The ruling government of Trinamool Congress (TMC) promised that if they won the seat, they would establish a separate subdivision within three months. Following that seat won by TMC, the state assembly passed the motion of forming the subdivision on 12 October 2023. The division was established officially on 20 January 2024.[1][2]
Administrative units
[edit]The subdivision will be carved out of Dhupguri town, Banarhat block and parts of Malbazar. Thus, the Jalpaiguri district has three subdivisions, the others being Jalpaiguri Sadar subdivision and Malbazar subdivision.[3][4]
Police Stations
[edit]Dhupguri and Banarhat have their own police stations that falls under the Jalpaiguri Police district of West Bengal Police.[5]
