David W. Sunday Jr. (born 1974 or 1975) is an American attorney and politician who is currently the Pennsylvania attorney general-elect. A member of the Republican Party, Sunday is the district attorney of York County.
Early life and career
[edit]After graduating from high school, Sunday served in the United States Navy from 1995 to 1999.[1] He then graduated from Pennsylvania State University and the Widener University Delaware Law School. While attending school, he worked for UPS. He began his legal career as a law clerk for a judge in the York County Court of Common Pleas[2]. He then joined the district attorney's office in York County, Pennsylvania, in 2009.[3]
In 2013, the U.S. Department of Justice appointed Sunday as a special assistant U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Sunday won the 2017 election to serve as district attorney of York County,[3] and took office in 2018.[1]
In July 2023, Sunday announced his candidacy in the 2024 election for Pennsylvania Attorney General.[1][4] He defeated Craig Williams in the Republican Party primary election[5] and defeated Democratic Party nominee Eugene DePasquale in the November general election.[6]
Personal life
