Suggested merge

[edit]

@BrownHairedGirl: Given that

(i) there are no articles on individual mills, so all articles are lists, and
(ii) the lists state that all the mills are "wool, cotton and other textile mills",

then this new category has the same scope as Category:Lists of mills in Kirklees. Would you agree to merge it? This would mean adding the "textile mills" parent and the Commons link to the target. – Fayenatic London 21:07, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think BrownHairedGirl created this to resolve a redlinked category on https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_mills_in_Kirklees&oldid=757560434 , so may have no vested interest in the topic. So, I need to ask ClemRutter the same question, as he added the (then non-existent) category to that list. – Fayenatic London 21:10, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fine: Please do the clean-up but don't forget their entries in Navboxes. The reason for naming was that at the time- every time you used the word 'mill' someone would assume that you meant a windmill, and there was a battle going on between ceremonial counties and Local Government divisions. @ClemRutter: thanks, I have done a simple merge and redirect. The navboxes {{Yorkshire Textiles}} and {{Lists of mills in England}} don't link to the categories. – Fayenatic London 11:29, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@ClemRutter: On further inspection, Category:Textile mills in West Yorkshire does contain articles on individual mills in Kirklees, so we could restore and populate this category after all. Would it be helpful to do so?
Meanwhile, the siblings Category:Textile mills in Bradford, Category:Textile mills in Calderdale and Category:Textile mills in Wakefield do not appear to be worth keeping, as they contain only one or two lists. On the other hand, Category:Textile mills in Leeds looks worth creating. – Fayenatic London 11:42, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe just keep them as redirects. Our catting system depends on a degree of symmetry that one doesn't find on the ground. But if you can, add the final result to the navboxes {{Yorkshire Textiles}} and {{Lists of mills in England}} we find the text when all other logic has failed! Good luck. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ClemRutter (talkcontribs) 13:12, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
