Just want to say that I disagree with lumping every sci-fi military unit that isn't concerned with flying ships as "marines". Marines have a specific mission that is seperate from army soldiers and the two terms are not so easily interchangeable. Units such as the Colonial Marines from the Alien movies may appear to have the same mission, but that is just ignorance on the part of the creator. I completely agree that groups such as this and Warhammer 40K's Space Marines have to be put in here, but please remember that marines were originally intended for guarding ships, keeping their crews in line, and repelling borders. This is why I feel that in sci-fi, with large scale ship vs. ship operations in style would have "Space Marines" in most cases reverting back to their original intention.
Specifically I feel that Heinlein's Mobile Infantry and the Storm Troopers of Star Wars shouldn't be here because they are both called "Army" by their creators.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.149.187.80 (talk • contribs)
I agree but the storm troopers of star wars have a special division of marines which are distinguished by the large orange plate they wear on their right shoulder. This units primary role is ship guarding. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.128.85.150 (talk) 13:57, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
