From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The general syntax for the name of the template is either:

  1. the lead author's name followed by a "-" then a word to identify the book, or
  2. the book's ISBN (if it has one). Since it should be to hand when you are giving a citation, it is easy to find and remember.

N.B. Since most of these templates are transcluded, two or more editions in one template break the citation in multiple articles. Therefore, please do not add to or expand an existing template – create a new one instead. With naming schema number 2, it is easy for editors to access the template for the edition that they are using.

As an example Template:Johnston-Glasgow which contains

 {{cite book
 | last = Johnston
 | first = Colin
 | authorlink = Colin Johnston
 | coauthors = Hulme, John H.
 | date = 1979
 | edition = 1st
 | title = Glasgow Stations
 | location = Newton Abbott, Devon
 | publisher = [[David & Charles]]
 | isbn = 0-7153-7569-5
 | oclc = 6091133
 }}<noinclude>
