Asylum Entertainment Group LLC is an American production company specialized in television and film production founded in 2003 by Steve Michaels.[1] The company was purchased by Legendary Entertainment for $100 million in 2013.[2] Steve Michaels purchased it from Legendary in 2018 and launched The Content Group within the company.[3] In 2023, Endeavor purchased a majority stake in the company.[4]

History

[edit]

In 2019, Steve Michaels restored the Asylum Entertainment branding following his purchase of the company back from Legendary Entertainment through a restructuration that turned The Content Group into a division with Jodi Flynn joining as president,[5] launched its drama division Clovis Entertainment headed by former Sony Pictures Television executive Derek Stoops[6] as well as its audio division Audity[7] and hired former ITV and Fox executive Ronan Hand as part of its international expansion.[8]

In 2020, Asylum Entertainment Group acquired Collins Avenue Entertainment from Kew Media through its The Content Group division[9] and launched 72 Steps Media as a joint venture with longtime Bunim/Murray Productions executive Ben Salter.[10]

In 2022, Texas Crew Productions was acquired by Asylum Entertainment Group.[11]

In 2023, AEG bought a stake in the UK producer Moon&Back Films[12] and secured first-look production deals with The New York Post[13] and Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello's company Comandante Productions.[14]

In 2024, the company acquired stakes in Soho Studios Entertainment,[15] Dare Entertainment,[16] Ladywell Films[17] and Done and Dusted.[18] In addition, Tyler Perry Studios has entered a production partnership with AEG.[19]
