[edit]- 1545 – Part of the Biblioteca Marciana in Venice collapses, causing the architect, Jacopo Sansovino, to be imprisoned briefly.
- 1546 – Michelangelo Buonarroti is made chief architect of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
