William Idamudia Daugaard Osula (/ˈwɪl.jəm əʊˈsuː.lə/; Yoruba pronunciation: [ˈwi.li.am ɔ.su.la]; Danish pronunciation: [ˈvil.jæm oˈsuː.lɑ]; born 4 August 2003) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a forward for Premier League club Newcastle United.
Club career
[edit]Sheffield United
[edit]Osula is a youth product of Danish club Copenhagen, where he played before moving to the youth academy of Sheffield United in 2018.[2] On 13 July 2021, he signed his first professional contract with the Yorkshire club.[3] He made his first team debut in a 0–0 draw against Blackpool on 16 March 2022, coming on as a late substitute in the 91st minute.[4]
Loan to Derby County
[edit]On 1 September 2022, Osula joined Derby County on a season-long loan.[5] On 15 October 2022, having already appeared four times from the bench, Osula made his first start for the club, scoring two goals in a 3–0 victory at Accrington Stanley.[6]
Return from loan
[edit]On 6 January 2024, Osula scored a brace for Sheffield United in a 4–0 FA Cup victory over Gillingham, marking his first senior goals for the club.[7]
Newcastle United
[edit]On 8 August 2024, Newcastle United announced the signing of Osula for £10,000,000 with a further £5,000,000 in add-ons.[8] On 12 January 2025, Osula scored his first goal for the club in the fourth round of the FA Cup, the third of a 3–1 win over Bromley.[9]
International career
[edit]Osula was born in Denmark to a Danish mother and a Nigerian father and moved to England at a young age.[10] He was called up to a training camp for the Denmark U19s in February 2022.[11] He debuted with the Denmark U19s in a friendly 3–2 loss to the Hungary U19s on 23 February 2022.[12]
