It would be good to have an archive for each column (if that doesn't already exist). Personally, I often find myself uncertain about which column to put my pieces in and spend an excessive amount of time searching for previous "x reports" to know how it should be written. For example, if an editor wanted to write up an AfD, it would be beneficial if they could promptly access all deletion reports to guide their writing. This may be anecdotal, but I have not found the content guidance particularly helpful. I find it more effective to read the pieces directly, as I learn better through that method; again, we all have different ways of learning. I think the code will be something like 'Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/*/Discussion report' with the asterisk as a wildcard. Svampesky (talk) 11:58, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kind of like this ^^^ ? ☆ Bri (talk) 17:36, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly like that. Thanks for also telling me how search parameters work too. Is there a way of making that into a template? Svampesky (talk) 18:12, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I found an existing search template, Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Templates/Article list maker that might do the job better. I'll fill in Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Archives/Column with some examples and you can take it from there.
Even better -- there is an existing index that uses the feature I mentioned above. You should probably use the index at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Series.
Unfortunately it looks like there's a script problem and indexing broke sometime around January 2024. I'm looking into that. ☆ Bri (talk) 19:44, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not a script problem -- just that it's a pain in the ass to manually tag all the articles. User:Chris troutman was doing it, but he got his ass beat, and now nobody is doing it. jp×g🗯️ 14:29, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ideally, every column should be given a tag with the respective column name, so that it shows up in list-maker invocations like this, although this is dependent on somebody going through and tagging every column when it's released. jp×g🗯️ 21:50, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I tried to do something like this for the draft template (at the top of a draft, the box will give you an option to search "previous deletion report" etc) jp×g🗯️ 21:50, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Guide request

[edit]

Hi, is there any guide, how to create newsletter like Signpost? I think such a newsletter would be beneficial to small wikis like ours (niawiki), where community members hardly interact with each other on wiki itself, but on WhatsApp and Telegram groups. Thanks. slaiatalk 08:57, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Slaia Hello! Sorry in advance for the extremely late reply...
I think @JPxG or @Jayen466 are the ones eho can offer the best insight on this matter, but on my part, I would suggest you to take a look at the About and Technical pages for the Signpost, so you can have a basic idea of how it works. I hope it helps! Oltrepier (talk) 11:42, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Time for a new column for 2025?

[edit]

Hello everyone!

I know the times aren't exactly looking the best for the Signpost and the world as of noe and as we approach the new year... but maybe Gen Z can save the day for real! Or at least, they can be in the spotlight as part of a new column.

I've set up a draft for a new column about Gen Z Wikimedians we could set up for 2025, so we can celebrate the Signpost's 20th anniversary in style (hopefully). To whom it may concern, your feedback and advice are hugely appreciated!

I have commented on that thread [1]. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 16:28, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppets on subscription list

[edit]

I just removed a couple of sockpuppet accounts from the subscription list, hope that's acceptable. ☆ Bri (talk) 18:03, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Signpost has fall off.

[edit]

I still remember that the Signpost was much more short and sweet. But now, it's a shadow of itself. 130.245.192.6 (talk) 00:53, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism Removal

[edit]

I've just found out that an IP removed me and another user from the list last month. Could we do something to prevent that? Thanks Nobody (talk) 14:56, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JPxG: should be easy for an admin to change page privileges?? ☆ Bri (talk) 19:15, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, this is cooked. I do not see a single IP subscription in this whole list, which suggests there is no reason to not have it semiprotected -- have also taken the liberty of TE-move protecting it because inb4onwheels. jp×g🗯️ 22:40, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Writer Request

[edit]

I would like to help write stories for the Signpost as a official writer. Would that be possible. WikiEditor5678910 (talk) 02:44, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
