Two or three types of categories

Currently we have three types of categories: container categories, partially diffused categories, and categories with articles only. According to the proposal we should cut out the second type of categories. However, I'm not sure how, because articles hugely differ in the broadness of their topic, and that is why we use partially diffused categories. For example we have Europe and we have Paris and we have Bastille which you will currently find at different category levels in the same tree. How is that going to work in this proposal? It's a simple algorithm for the implementation to handle this. I'm pretty sure some circular paths exist in categories exist, but there are ways to handle this programatically too. If you try to perform an intersection on a huge tree-trunk category like Category:Europe then you can expect to have the result arrive slowly or the members of the intersection too numerous to be meaningful. What we want is community push to get this feature. Implementation details should be a secondary concern. Donama (talk) 05:29, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

  6. Endorsed by Daask (talk) The currently existing category intersection categories are arbitrary. Should there be Category:Muslim African-American skiers of the 20th century? As a writer of new pages, I consider the effort I have to go through walking up and down the category tree and copying categories from similar articles to be a waste of my time. I wish I could just write Category:Muslims, Category:African-Americans, Category:Skiers, and Category:20th-century people and publish without looking up what (intersection) categories actually exist at all. It seems Wikipedia_talk:Category_intersection/Archive_2 is missing, meaning there is no way to navigate to Wikipedia_talk:Category_intersection/Archive_3. NisJørgensen (talk) 10:42, 20 January 2018 (UTC)

It says at Wikipedia talk:Category intersection/Archive 2:
Why that was done remains a mystery. I think the easiest repair is to move Wikipedia talk:Category intersection/Archive 3 to .../Archive 2 and set |counter=2 in {{User:MiszaBot/config}} above. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:13, 20 January 2018 (UTC)

Find films where 2 actors played together

Hello, I created categories that list the films where an actor played. However my contributions were reverted: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Baptx#Why_the_awkwardly-named_categories?

These categories need to be added to film pages in order to find films where 2 actors played together, using category intersections (which would be an open source alternative to IMDb, here is an example: https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?title_type=feature&role=nm0000136,nm0000138).

Can you confirm that it would be fine using these categories if I just change the name of the categories from something like "Films played by Leonardo DiCaprio" to "Films in which Leonardo DiCaprio acted"? Baptx (talk) 20:16, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
