Wikipedia:WikiProject Scotland
This is a WikiProject, an area for focused collaboration among Wikipedians. New participants are welcome; please feel free to participate!
|
The Scotland WikiProject is a group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to Scotland. This WikiProject is modelled on similar projects and was started in August 2006, following a consultation. It runs alongside the Scottish Wikipedians' notice board, which had been functioning as a de facto WikiProject Scotland since October 2005.
(For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and the Guide to WikiProjects).
Scope and Goals
[edit]- Our goals
-
- To provide guidelines and recommendations for articles that describe all aspects of Scotland.
- To improve Wikipedia's coverage of Scotland by creating, expanding, and maintaining such articles.
- To serve as the central point of discussion for issues related to Scotland in Wikipedia.
- Our scope
- The project generally considers any article related to Scotland to be a valid topic.
- Our structure
- Internally, the project may develop several structural features to help in managing its extensive work:
- Coordinators, who are responsible for maintaining the administrative aspects of the project
- Departments, which coordinate work on certain specialised tasks, such as peer review or project-wide collaboration
- Specialised WikiProjects, which are groups for collaboration on specific areas of Scotland, such as geography, politics and sports.

The assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's Scottish articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.
The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WP Scotland}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in a set of categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist.
Peer Review
[edit]The Wikipedia:WikiProject Scotland/Peer review page is a place to nominate articles for peer review by others on the project.
This page should be used for articles in which an extensive analysis is wanted with all ideas and suggestions welcomed for the future development of the article.
Reviewers will be as critical as possible so that the article can become as polished as possible as all articles should have the eventual aim of becoming a featured article.
