New Page Title Typo'd

- Thanx, PrimeHunter, I didn't know. Sam Sailor Yes, it is a help desk. :) I use a more narrow definition for R from misspelling, that doesn't really include most typos, but rather just, "this is what I intended to type, but it turns out I was wrong on how it is spelled".Naraht (talk) 12:11, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

The World Of Tagore
[edit]i want to create a new article about a new upcoming Bollywood movie, which name is "The World Of Tagore" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mijanursrkr (talk • contribs) 09:46, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, Mijanursrkr. Creating a new article is one of the harder tasks on Wikipedia, and I always advise new users to get a few months' experience improving existing articles before they try it. In any case, please start by reading your first article. Then look for reliable published sources, unconnected with the film or its producers, which have talked in depth about it. If the film is not yet made, there may not be many of these, and it may be a case of TOOSOON. If you can find several such sources, then you can start a draft. Write your draft entirely from what you find in the reliable published sources (though in your own words): remember that Wikipedia is not interested, not even a little bit, in what you know, or think, or believe, any more than it is interested in what I know or any random person on the Internet knows. All the content in an article, every single fact mentioned, should come from a reliable published source, and most of it from sources unconnected with the subject.
- Looking at your sandbox, User:Mijanursrkr/sandbox/The World Of Tagore, I have blanked the "Production" section, because that is a direct copy of http://penncamera.in, in violation of copyright. You need at the very least to rewrite it in your own words; but actually, if material about the production company is relevant to the article (I am not sure that it is) it should come from a source independent of the company - Wikipedia has hardly any interest in what anybody says about themselves. When I saw that text with its "We", I at first thought you were connected with the company, but then realised it looked like a cut and paste, and went looking for the source of the copyright material. But if you are in any way connected with the company, you also need to read COI. --ColinFine (talk) 10:53, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Sir Thomas Gower, 1st Baronet
[edit]In your article on the above you state that the 1st Baronet's father was a military engineer and one time Marshal of Berwick whose name was also Thomas. I have recently found a reference that shows that tis may be the wrong assumption. The reference comes from the 'Peerage of England' Volume III, dated 1776, and gives the father of the 1st Baronet as the eldest son of Sir Thomas Marshal of Berwick. Please see following:-
Thomas eldest son of Sir Edward was constituted on the 16th of July 35 Henry VIII Receiver general of all and singular the honours &c appointed for payment of the soldiers in garison at Berwick and Supervisor of all the buildings and fortifications of that town as also the castle of Warke He was likewise Marshal of Berwick and in 1 Edward VI being Captain of a band of Light horsemen in that army which then inwaded Scotland under the command of the of Somerset he had the misfortune to be taken prisoner with Sir Ralph Bulmer Knight and Robert Crouch whom Hollinshed mentions to be men of right good courage and approved service and at this time disressed by their own too much forwardness and not by the enemies force He was afterwards made Governor of Aymouth fort six miles distant from Berwick also master of the ordnance in that expedition made into Scotland in 2 Elizabeth By his first wife Anne daughter of James Maleverer Esq he had no issue but by his second Barbara daughter to John Baxter Esq he had Thomas his son and heir Henry William and Edward Isabel Jane and Barbara Which Thomas married Mary daughter of Gabriel Fairfax of Steeton in com Ebor Esq and had issue Thomas his son and heir Robert Edward and two daughters His eldest son Thomas Gower of Stittenham was 7 eight weeks old in September 1584 and having been knighted by King James the First was created a Baronet 2 June 1620 18 Jac I He married Anne daughter and heir to John Doyley of Merton in com Oxon Esq and by her who died the 28th of Oétober 1633 and was buried in the church of St Clements Danes had issue Sir Thomas Gower his successor Doyley Gower a Colonel of Dragoons in the service of King Charles the First and other sons.
Sir Thomas Gower was knighted at Whitehall the 24th of 1730 and succeeded his father in his estate and title of Baronet He was a sufferer for his loyalty to King Charles the First having been twice High Sheriff of Yorkshire and attended on the King when he was shut out of Hull and raised a regiment of Dragoons of which his brother before mentioned was Colonel He had two wives Elizabeth daughter of Sir William Howard of Naworth Castle sister to Charles Earl of Carlisle and 2dly Frances daughter and coheir of Sir John Leveson of Haling in Kent and of Lilleshul in com Salop by Frances his wife daughter and heir of Sir Thomas Sondes of Throwley in Kent elder brother of Sir Michael Sondes Bart By which last Lady this Sir Thomas Gower had issue two sons Edward and William ancestor to the present Lord Gower also a daughter Frances
Explanation - meaning of '16th of July 35 Henry VIII' = the thirty fifth year of the reign of King Henry the 8th which calculates as 1544 (1509+35). Likewise '1 Edward VI' equates to 1547. Therefore Sir Thomas Gower Marshal of Berwick must have been born around 1520 at the latest.
This would mean that the Father of Sir Thomas Gower 1st Baronet was NOT Thomas Marshal of Berwick but his son, also called Thomas. Since the 1st Baronet was born about 1584 then IF Thomas Gower (Marshal of Berwick) had been the father then he would been aged at least sixty, unlikly for these times. thew only other explanation would have been if both father and son had been Marshal's of Berwick. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.41.75.92 (talk) 09:53, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, IP user. Thank you for your contribution. A better place to discuss it would be the talk page Talk:Sir Thomas Gower, 1st Baronet. If you can improve the article, you are welcome to edit it directly; but you may need to be cautious in this instance. Wikipedia does not accept original research: you could cite the new information you have discovered, but any kind of argumentation or conclusion is not acceptable in a Wikipedia article, unless it is summarising the argument or conclusion from a single reliably published source; so you would need to get your research published in a peer-reviewed journal, or at least one with a reputation for editorial control, before it could be inserted into the article. Since the claim that Gower was the son of Marshal is cited to Collins, that should not be removed without (at least) another reliable source that disputes it. --ColinFine (talk) 11:11, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
my article showing Draft in prefix of name
[edit]hi i wrote one article it showing draft in prefix of orticle name — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sweetsuresh777 (talk • contribs) 10:49, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, Sweetsuresh777. What you have written is a draft article, Draft:ADHIRAJARAM. It is not yet an article, and if you moved it to article space now, I am not sure it would survive, as it fails in many ways to meet the criteria for an acceptable Wikipedia article. Some of the problems I see are:
- It has some references, but they are presented as bare URLs, so it is difficult for a reader to evaluate them, and see whether or not they are the reliable independent sources that Wikipedia required. Please ss Referencing for beginners
- The references are not cited inline, so the reader cannot tell where particular claims come from. This is
requiredespecially important in biographies of living persons. - The tone is unacceptable in several places: a Wikipedia article must be a neutral summary of what the reliable sources say about a subject. Any kind of advocacy is forbidden. There should be not one word in the article which is evaluative of the subject (either for or against), except in a direct quotation of a reliable source unconnected with the subject.
- Part of it seems to be notes to yourself about how to write the article. This is fine in a draft, but unacceptable in an article.
- There are a number of lesser problems with the formatting, such as: don't use all capitals in an article title; don't embolden a whole paragraph; there are more appropriate infoboxes, such as {{infobox politician}}.
- I suggest that you read your first article carefully, as well as all the other pages I have linked to above, and start editing your draft to conform to the standards required. (Your draft is a lot better than many people's first attempt, I may say). I have added the AFC draft header to it, so when you think it is ready, you can pick the button to submit it for review.
- Good luck! --ColinFine (talk) 11:28, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- ColinFine, you are mis-stating the BLP policy with respect to when inline citations are “required”. Check again, looking out for the words “challenged or likely to be challenged”. First versions of articles including BLPs are rarely required to have inline citations, as much as they are desirable. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 12:41, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- My apologies, Sweetsuresh777, I overstated that point; but my other comments still stand. Thanks, SmokeyJoe. --ColinFine (talk) 14:11, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

My organization's name is a link in an article - can't create page
[edit]Dear Help desk experts,
I'm trying to start editing an article about the organization I work for. Unfortunately, when I type in our name in the search bar, it leads me to an article where the organization is mentioned (NOT an article/page about my organization). Since the organization's name doesn't appear as a red link, I am not able to start creating an article about it, which is very frustrating.
The name of my organization is "International Cocoa Initiative (ICI)". The article, in which ICI is mentioned, is this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harkin%E2%80%93Engel_Protocol#2005_progress_and_Joint_Statement
How do I manage to create an article about the organization itself?
Many thanks for your help on how to proceed.
Best, Marta — Preceding unsigned comment added by ICI cocoa (talk • contribs) 14:05, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- The answer is that you should probably not do so. Wikipedia has rather stringent conflict of interest guidelines that discourage people from creating or editing articles about entities they have a close relationship with, such as employers. --Jayron32 14:15, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- And further to the general advice regarding conflict of interest, there are mandatory requirements regarding paid editing. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:34, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Is it possible that the article I created and submitted last year has been forgotten? It is Draft:Revolutionary Left. It was turned down for copyright infringement but that was rectified and then it was resubmitted and now nothing for two months. I know there is a backlog but all the articles submitted on the same day appear to be dealt with.Vahvistus (talk) 18:13, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Vahvistus: There is a current backlog of up to two months. The page appears to have ben re-submitted at the beginning of January so may still be in the system. There is a note that it has been submitted a second time but the familiar 'awaiting review' notice is missing. Has it, in fact, submitted correctly? Also there is no chronological order in the review process. Eagleash (talk) 21:02, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Eagleash: My first draft contained a copyright violation which then had to be removed from the history before I could continue editing. Is there a template I can use for the rebranded Microsoft Academic? For example: See Peter Mitchell Grant - Peter Grant on Microsoft Academic. Thanks.Gomach (talk) 21:03, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- I updated the template to use Microsoft Academic. However all IDs changed and all articles that use it need an update. Ruslik_Zero 20:08, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Ruslik0: Excellent, thank you very much. I have started updating the articles I created.Gomach (talk) 21:32, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
I can't thank anyone
[edit]Hi! My thank button is missing. Does anyone know why? Noah Kastin (talk) (🖋) 21:39, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- There's an ongoing issue and the function has been temporarily disabled. nagualdesign 21:45, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Nagualdesign: Thank you for letting me know! I've weighed in on the issue at the link that you gave me. Noah Kastin (talk) (🖋) 22:03, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- With technical issues like this it's probably for the best to just leave them to it. nagualdesign 22:05, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Nagualdesign: Agreed. There's nothing that I can do, plus I have no technical expertise at the level required, so even if I could do something about this, I'd probably be better off avoiding it. Noah Kastin (talk) (🖋) 22:10, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Noah Kastin: The Thanks system is working again now. nagualdesign 23:29, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
