military ranks page is template with no info

Template:United States uniformed services comparative ranks There is no info on 4 month page. Help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.60.251.37 (talk) 00:07, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Template:United States uniformed services comparative ranks is a template that is added to articles, not an article. It's not supposed to have info. Ian.thomson (talk) 00:12, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Are you by any chance trying to view it on a mobile device? It contains a navbox and navboxes are not displayed in the mobile version of Wikipedia. The idea is to save space in articles but maybe the software should be changed to display navboxes on template pages. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:46, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

When posting a Help Desk question on Italian Wikipedia, can I post in English? Or Italian only?

[edit]

If I post a question on a foreign Wikipedia (Italian Wikipedia), can I post it in English? Or is it supposed to be posted in Italian? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:49, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You can ask in any language. Doesn't necessarily mean they will understand you though. You can try posting in English with a note that your don't really speak Italian and then add a rough google translate below it. Better than nothing. --Majora (talk) 00:52, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's what I will try. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 04:06, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, all. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 20:26, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Can someone give me a link for the "Entertainment Help Desk" in Italian Wikipedia? I tried to navigate the site, but I could not make heads or tails of anything. I don't read Italian. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 04:08, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Their version of the reference desk is not divided into sections. It is called The Oracle and seems to do everything. It can be found here: it:Wikipedia:Oracolo. If you want the help desk, which is for help editing the Italian Wikipedia that can be found here: it:Aiuto:Sportello informazioni. --Majora (talk) 04:21, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, all. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 20:26, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I just added

[edit]

the architects to the Info Box at Phi Gamma Delta House but they are not showing up. There already was a spot for architect, I just added the names. Any suggestions? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 01:24, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

On preview you would have got this message. (In red).
"Warning: Page using Template:Infobox NRHP with unknown parameter "architect OR builder" (this message is shown only in preview)." Eagleash (talk) 01:31, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
According to the template doc. the correct parameter is just "architect", so I have amended it. Eagleash (talk) 01:40, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

please respect the naming by Chinese people

[edit]

In Hong Kong and Macau media, the pro-Beijing camp is just called "建制派", and it is NOT an abbreviation of "親建制派". The Chinese name need NOT be a direct translation of English name. It is offending to include "親建制派" but not "建制派" in this article. 182.239.77.40 (talk) 08:39, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss this at Talk:Pro-Beijing camp. I suspect that few people here understand Chinese characters well enough to form an opinion. Maproom (talk) 08:49, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

leaky colo+open proxy from User:Ahmadrizo

[edit]

I am Ahmadrizo's friend. He told me he can't log-in wikipedia because he is blocked. The blocked reason is leaky colo+open proxy. He can't edit his talk page, either. I tried to get some message from Ahmadrizo's page and talk page. Nothing found.

Could anyone let me know happened? And how can I do to let Ahmadrizo can login again?

think--Wolfch (talk) 12:57, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wolfch: I can find no evidence that User:Ahmadrizo is blocked from English-language Wikipedia. Maybe he is blocked from Farsi-language Wikipedia, I can't read any Farsi so I can't find out. Or maybe the open proxy he is trying to use is blocked. Maproom (talk) 13:25, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This is typically experienced by users who are trying to use anonymising proxies. This is not so unusual for Iranian editors. In order to address this block we always need the affected IP address, available in the block message, to check if the block is proper according to the open proxy policy). However if he is knowingly using an anonymising proxy (as is probably the case) he will need to request IP block exemption. Details are available on that page. -- zzuuzz (talk) 14:07, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank for your quick and kind help. I will forward this message to Ahmadrizo--Wolfch (talk) 14:11, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

XML Parsing Error in Complete History XML Documents of Pages with Large Histories

[edit]

Hello!

I am currently working on a project involving Wikipedia histories and modeling them using graphs.

However, we are running into problems when parsing through the XML document of the compilation of all the edits done to a page. Some of the larger documents (Ex: Barack Obama and Freddie Mercury) do not seem to be constructed properly and are returning the following error (this is from Freddie Mercury):

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed Location: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Export&pages=Freddie+Mercury&history&action=submit Line Number 3201897, Column 3:<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/REC-xhtml1-20020801/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> --^

The XML is not well-formed, and this is preventing the document from opening, not just parsing.

What could be a fix for this? I am not too comfortable with XML, so I might be missing something. But I tried multiple different parsers, and even just tried opening the XML as a webpage, nothing worked.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pratyush.kapur (talkcontribs) 16:45, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Pratyush.kapur: I would suggest redirecting this to WP:VPT. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 17:50, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

polyurethane golf ball cover

[edit]

I am one of the 4 people who are responsible for the introduction of polyurethane to the golf ball industry. A while ago you featured an article giving credit for this invention to those responsible for the innovation. I find that the article has been deleted and i would like to know why.

Sincerely,

Jack Raia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.17.22.201 (talk) 17:58, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's difficult to say why it was deleted without knowing the exact name of the article. Usually, when articles are deleted on Wikipedia, it's because they either fulfill the criteria for speedy deletion (such as being an empty article or obvious hoax) or fail our inclusion criteria. Briefly, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and thus does not perform its own research. It requires what it calls reliable sources to have already performed the research, and then it summarizes them. If we can't find enough of these high quality sources, we may delete the article. Reliable sources generally include newspapers, trade magazines, academic journals, books, etc. Websites can also be used, but they need to have editorial control and a history of fact-checking; self-published blogs, for example, are not allowed except under certain circumstances. Finally, sometimes people simply lose track of articles they've created. It can help to do a search or to check your logged-in account's sandbox, if you have a logged-in account. Don Black

[edit]

How do I correct something. Don Black's no hitter took place in Cleveland not Shibe Park in Philadelphia. I know this because my mom was there in a box seat directly behind the dugout.

Thanks,

Rob Wittmer — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.36.93.6 (talk) 18:16, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rob, thank you for pointing this out. According to this source that detail was indeed wrong (Wikipedia content needs to have a reliable source for verification). I have simply removed this disputed detail for now, as it wasn't that important in Don Black (baseball) anyway. If you can provide a reliable source for new or corrected information, you can simply edit the article yourself - or you can suggest a change at the article's talkpage. GermanJoe (talk) 18:47, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This book, published by the University Press of Kentucky, says it happened in Cleveland. Since GermanJoe said it's not important information, I didn't add it to the article, but someone else could if they wanted. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 18:52, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nice find, I have re-added that detail and the source - the book probably contains a lot of additional details for interested readers. GermanJoe (talk) 19:10, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For people who are as confused as me, this is a request for people to work on Draft:Haven Paschall, a biography of a voice actress. I think "YGO ZEXAL" refers to Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 19:06, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
