July 10

[edit]

Please help. The date for citation number 105 titled "The Late Mr H.D. Middleton" is incorrect. It should be "Yorkshire Evening Post, 24 June, 1933" - NOT 1907.

Please change this and leave in the quote. Thanks101.182.141.11 (talk) 00:07, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone such as (talk) please help me with the edit as requested above. Thanks so much. 101.182.141.11 (talk) 01:22, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please attempt to fix it yourself. I'll even give you the section link. All you have to do is change the number and hit save. Try to do it first and then ask if you can't figure it out. --Majora (talk) 02:31, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I know that you will think that I am silly, but the other students are not here today at college and I do not trust my eyesight. Please add the correct date in to this newspaper article if you could be so kind. Thanks101.182.141.11 (talk) 02:35, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. I'll fix it. --Majora (talk) 02:44, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How in the world can you have a list of people from Dixon Illinois and not include President Ronald Reagan??? His boyhood home is right there on Peoria Avenue. His statue is right downtown by the river. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.156.219.136 (talk) 00:18, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reagan was not born in Dixon. He was born in Tampico, Illinois. So he is mentioned in that article. --Majora (talk) 00:30, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well it seems like he is mentioned in the Dixon article anyways. Even though he wasn't born there. So this request is moot. --Majora (talk) 00:36, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

unverifiable death

[edit]

related to this article...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Gregory_(producer) I'm related to his nephew via marriage...the subject was basically not in contact with anyone in the family...it had been stated in the article that he died December 2015...I asked the nephew who believed this to not be true...I informed an editor involved with the article that he may be alive so it was changed back...the nephew has now informed me that he talked to the subject's attorney in California and he did in fact die in December 2015. But the guy had become a recluse etc and there was not and will not be an obituary published anywhere...it was recently changed to listing his death but then reverted back for not being sourced...it will likely be unsourceable for years or even forever...unless some writer/journalist writes something about 'the night of the hunter' in the future and specifically refers to him having died etc....anyway, what can be done here??68.48.241.158 (talk) 02:08, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Category:Possibly living people and the text at the top. Basically, if someone 90+ years old has no current appearances for at least a decade, we say that the person's living-or-dead status is unknown. Probably the best way for you to help is to look for his appearances in the media or other published documentation, and give us a link (if the source is online) or a print citation to the most recent documentation that you can find. Nyttend (talk) 02:54, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
anything written about him in the past would obviously not refer to his death...and I can't imagine anything written about him in the future having any reason to refer to his death..as anything written will be about his association with Charles Laughton and his producing the famous movie 'night of the hunter' and will be speaking to this time period...could put December 2015 (citation needed)?? or forced to perhaps forever leave it as either being alive/death date unknown...??68.48.241.158 (talk) 03:09, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, that's not what I meant. If you could look for information about him, and tell us when the latest information about him was published, that would work to start the ten-year clock. If the latest publication about his then-current activities were published ten years ago or more, we could put his article into "Possibly living people" immediately; if it were published eight years ago, we could put his article into that category in two years. Since the person with the longest well-documented lifespan died at age 122, this category isn't meant for people born more than approximately 120 years ago; we'd put his article into Category:Year of death missing once 2040 rolls around. Nyttend (talk) 03:19, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
it's a weird situation..industry publications would likely list his death but they have no way of knowing/being informed of his death...the guy has been retired from the industry for decades and has been a recluse, apparently...he has been written about in the past, of course, and will continue to be written about in the future regarding his past activities..but these won't have any reason to refer to his death date...anyway, just curious...the guy is indeed dead..but it can't be verified so at some point it will just have to be assumed, I suppose...like when he would have to be 130 years old or something..68.48.241.158 (talk) 03:29, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
He doesn't appear to have been that reclusive—it looks like he was still giving interviews in 2012. ‑ Iridescent 10:31, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
perhaps his nephew more referring to having no contact with any family for many years..I think he had been widowed a while and had no children etc..68.48.241.158 (talk) 11:35, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There was already a similiar case with another person from film history, child actress Marianne Edwards, where it also took a long time until everyone agreed. For me personally, it's pretty clear that Gregory has died, there are four independent and credible-looking IPs who write that he passed away. Still, there isn't a reliable source. And while Gregory still gave interviews by 2012, he couldn't be reached in 2015 when DesMonies Register wrote an article for his 95th birthday: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/2015/08/26/finney-night-des-moines-went-hollywood/32312633/ So he apparently became a recluse during his last years. It also shows that newspapers and publishers have a certain kind of interest about Gregory even today, so there is hope that somebody will once pick up his death in a reliable source. I would support the "citation needed" solution by 68.48. --Clibenfoart (talk) 16:44, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Creating

[edit]

Hi

I would really like to know how to create a biography since it will really help my career take another step forward. I'm a young actor in South Africa and have been on our national television screens for three years now. I believe the next step in helping me become a more self sustainable actor is to get a biography or article started which will help casting directors see my work so far in order to become a self sustaining young South African young actor. Conditions in my country are very tough and this is certainly a great platform to let casting directors see my work.

Please help me.

Wikipedia isn't here to promote yourself. We are not here to let people know about you either. Please try another website like Facebook. --Majora (talk) 03:42, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The IMDb would be perfect for this. Wikipedia, however, requires that you already have coverage in newspapers, magazines, etc. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 06:23, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

False Information

[edit]

The information reported under my name, Clarence McClendon, is inaccurate and I would like my ministry|organization to have access to this page to update the information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.105.87.59 (talk) 04:27, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, can you specify which part of the article is inaccurate? Darylgolden(talk) Ping when replying 05:37, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Clarence. Wikipedia is always concerned that information in its articles is accurate, according to reliable published sources, especially if it concerns living people; but we discourage people from editing articles about themselves or people or organisations they are closely connected with, and we do not report information which is has not been reliable published somewhere. Please see WP:AUTOPROB for how to proceed if you think something is wrong with an article about you. --ColinFine (talk) 09:29, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is this allowed?

Userpage redirected to article:[1] --Guy Macon (talk) 05:51, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:User pages only says that you can't make your user talk page a redirect. I'd just ignore it. Or I guess you could leave a polite message on the user's talk page and request that they consider removing the redirect. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 06:21, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Normally this happens because an article is drafted at the userpage and then moved to mainspace; this is different, so I don't understand what's going on, but it's harmless, so I agree that it's best ignored. Nyttend (talk) 12:48, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @Mohamed1900q:, please discuss article-related concerns with other editors at the article's talkpage Talk:El_Shorouk_Academy, and don't edit-war when other editors disagree with you. If that fails, WP:Dispute resolution contains more guidance in case of contested edits and other problems. You should also read the advice that has been posted on your user talkpage User talk:Mohamed1900q. Images

[edit]

Would it be within Wikipedia policy and guidelines to email a person requesting an image for an article? It would 100% solve problems with people such as Malcolm Turnbull, whose Wiki image is lopsided, and Bill Shorten, who is not even smiling. These two are prolific figures in Australian politics yet their talk pages reflect ongoing problems. 2nd question - my friend's father is the federal minister for Fremantle, Western Australia. Would me writing an article on him be a breach of Conflict of Interest?

Cheers - JoshMuirWikipedia (talk) 08:41, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, JoshMuirWikipedia. You're welcome to ask them; but please make it clear that what you need is not permission to use the image in Wikipedia (that is not enough), but agreement to license it under a licence such as CC-BY-SA, (which allows anybody to reuse the image for any purpose, including commercial, as long as it is attributed). If they are willing to do so, they (not you) must go through the procedure in Donating copyright materials; but if they do so, you can upload the picture using the upload wizard. --ColinFine (talk) 10:09, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see, what I was going to request was for them to provide me with a private image or a an image they took just for Wikipedia. I will notify them of if they want to provide me with a copyrighted material. Thanks for your answer ColinFine! JoshMuirWikipedia (talk) 10:15, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@JoshMuirWikipedia:See also Wikipedia:Example requests for permission. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:18, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi JoshMuirWikipedia. Others already answered half of your question; I will just add that any sane communication assistant for a politician will be happy to provide a photograph under pretty much any license (that's free publicity right there).
As for the other half, it is indeed a WP:COI but a very small one (I think). Until and unless someone objects to your edits, I would write pretty much as I would any other article.
COI editing is not forbidden and there are cases (for instance, you) where it is actually beneficial to WP. We need to discourage it to restrict the flow of "look at my company" articles, but if you write about a notable subject in a neutral way, go for it. Just use the template provided at WP:DCOI on the talk page, linking back to the diff of your first post here, to avoid an unpleasant and unnecessary trip to WP:COIN. It is not possible to reset a password if you failed to provide an email address. If you win the contest, write back and we will see what we can do.--S Philbrick(Talk) 01:47, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dyro discography

I have tried to fix Reference 6 (pturnupthebass) at Dyro discography, but have not been able to do so. Can you please advise, and {{ping}} me? --Jax 0677 (talk) 18:52, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate information on page titled "Joe Eszterhas"

[edit]

Hello,

I would like to report false information on the page titled "Joe Eszterhas" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Eszterhas

As to the Joe Eszterhas article, I am the editor of the official website for Joe Eszterhas and I am working closely with him. We have been reviewing the information listed on Joe's article. We have found a number of errors along with inconsistencies. There is a paragraph at the top of the page stating that he is in relation to the "Esterhazy" family, which is incorrect.

We would like to have that information removed, considering it is false.

Thank you,

Maryjanekathryn (talk) 20:46, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the content you mentioned as it was not sourced and has had a request for a source for over 6 months with no response. If you have other concerns the place to discuss it is on the article talk page, Talk:Joe Eszterhas. -- GB fan 20:57, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors on Denialism

[edit]

Reference help requested. The bot has indicated that there is a problem with a URL I have supplied (the second one highlighted in the diff). I can't see what the problem is. Can someone help please. DrChrissy (talk) 21:02, 10 July 2016 (UTC) Thanks, DrChrissy (talk) 21:02, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It was missing the 'http://' (I don't know how to write that here without producing the link icon) at the beginning. (Or should that be https?) Eagleash (talk)
Thanks so much for your edit at the page - that seems to work fine. DrChrissy (talk) 21:17, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome; glad to help. Eagleash (talk) 21:21, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Eagleash, you can suppress that behaviour with <nowiki>: <nowiki>http://</nowiki> produces http:// --ColinFine (talk) 22:48, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Right; didn't know if that would work. (See code for my response to Q below). Eagleash (talk) 22:58, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mokume-gane

[edit]

I am trying to rectify an error: "The named reference was invoked but never defined." The instructions given are extremely confusing. I'm new at this but more than happy to learn the correct form of providing information. Your directions will be much appreciated and followed. @#&$ — Preceding unsigned comment added by John Loring (talkcontribs) 22:00, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, in this case you have assigned a ref name without attaching that ref name to an actual reference, thus <ref name=XXX>{{reference content}}</ref>. This is done so if you wish to cite the same source multiple times, you only have to put <ref name=XXX/> to produce the citation in subsequent instances. Have a look at the other multiple refs. on that page to see what I mean. If still stuck come back here. Eagleash (talk) 22:12, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@John Loring: See more at Help:Referencing for beginners. The reference is only used once so a name is not necessary. I have fixed your citation with {{Cite book}}.[2] Since you are apparently John Loring (designer) citing your own book and praising old work of your own company, see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
