- Thank you for letting us know - as there are many issues with the article as it stands, in addition to the copyright problems, I've nominated the article for deletion. CaptRik (talk) 09:43, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- I've deleted it. Whilst there were numerous earlier versions that could have been reverted to, none of them constituted an acceptable article (BLP violation, puffery, SPAs, soapboxing and other copyright violations abounded). I've therefore decided to ignore all rules and ditch the whole thing, though I've no objection if someone with no agenda wants to rewrite it from scratch. Yunshui 雲水 09:53, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Tags
[edit]There is a long list of tags - "verification needed", "citation needed", etc - in WP Help, but I cannot locate it again. Where is it, please? --P123ct1 (talk) 11:44, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- WP:TEMPLATES gives you the main directory page . -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 11:48, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Where in all that information can I find the "verification needed" tag? --P123ct1 (talk) 12:30, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- On the WP:TEMPLATES page, use your browser's Find function to locate "verification".
- Click on that link.
- Use your browser's Find function to locate multiple occurrences of "verification".
- Is that what you wanted? ‑‑Mandruss (talk) 12:57, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- It may be worth noting that typing "template:verification needed" in the wikipedia search will redirect to {{verify source}}. Generally, if I can remember what the text said I can find it in the template namespace. Hoof Hearted (talk) 15:12, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Constructing a "Foo by country" navbox
[edit]Is there a simple way to construct a "Foo by country" navbox that lists all the countries of the world sorted by continent/region. Then each "Foo in <country>" article can be linked in it as/when they exist/are created? If Foo is a topic inherently relevant to all countries so that "Foo in <country>" articles could exist for all countries, should/could the navbox include redlinks for all not yet written articles? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:39, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- @Dodger67: As examples to crib from for construction, see {{Wine by country}}, or any of a host you can find through a search like this. See also Category:Country list templates. I don't know any way to automate or semi-automate listing all countries, though see List of sovereign states and Category:Lists of countries for information to mine.
Even with the premise that all such articles are warranted, given the type of list, the issue of red links is not clear to me. I think it would depend on whether we're talking about a sea of red links or just some outliers, with most blue. As noted at WP:RED
"Although red links to notable topics are permitted in lists and other articles, do not overlink in the mainspace solely for use as an article creation guide. Instead, editors are encouraged to consider WP:Write the article first, or to use WikiProjects or user spaces to keep track of unwritten articles".
Further on the same page there's
"Red links generally are not included in ... navigational boxes ... An exception is red links in navboxes where the red-linked articles are part of a series or a whole set, e.g. a navbox listing successive elections, referenda, presidents, sports league seasons, etc."
A discussion you might find relevant: Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2012 April 2#Template:Culture of region. Sorry if my response leaves the issue with more questions than answers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:36, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Fuhghettaboutit - good information and a great leads to follow up. The "sea of red" question will probably be the deciding factor for either starting with all countries listed or adding countries only when relevant articles exist. Perhaps commenting out the redlinks if there are too many might make sense. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:21, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
I made edits but they have gone from my user log
[edit]They were all minor edits so i can get enough to write an article about something but they have all disappeared, why is that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Apeters5 (talk • contribs) 14:17, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Here is a list of all the edits made so far by your account, Special:Contributions/Apeters5. The system does not show that any edits have been deleted. Where have you made edits that are not showing up on that list? GB fan 14:20, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Your use of the words "user log" makes me wonder if you are looking in the wrong place for your contribs. The link is "Contributions", top right of the page next to "Log out". ‑‑Mandruss (talk) 14:34, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
warning?
[edit]Currently, there is a last warning for block-out in my discussion forum.# But I have some doubt about this notice.
1) As far as I know, there are several stages to notify the editing warning, but is it possible to notify the last warning at once?
2) Is this warning fair? I edited an item, as I claimed. But one opponent said it was edited wrong and rejected what I edited. I discussed with the opponent and tried to solve the problem peacefully in the discussion forum.Of course, I also rejected opponent's editing several times. But I never talked roughly and suggested the source for discussion and editing. Do you think my warning is fair?
3) The opponent rejected my editing several times. Of course, I also rejected his editing several times, as mentioned above. But he was the same. I am wondering why you don't give him a warning. -- JARA7979 (talk) 23:52, 07 October 2014 (KTC)
- When you were unblocked earlier this year, you agreed to certain conditions. Your removal of sourced content based on your personal opinions is disruptive behavior of the sort that can get you blocked once more. Your prior history of disruptive and NPOV-violating edits is the cause of the warning starting at a higher level. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:01, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- thank you. then If i edit article by my opinion again, i get block again? what shold i do? i just wait when other people edit talk page by my opinion?--JARA7979 (talk) 00:42, 08 October 2014 (KTC)
- Discuss your edits, and the reasoning behind them, on the talk page of the article. What do you mean by, "other people edit talk page by my opinion"? --Orange Mike | Talk 17:55, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Do we keep website information on defunct tv projects?
[edit]Vortexx, a block of children's programing, was recently canceled. It is my belief that it's website information should remain in the article and info box even if the website no longer is active. There is one other editor and a few IPs that feel differently about the issue. I would appreciate correction if I am mistaken.--Adam in MO Talk 16:20, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- WP:Notability is not temporary. We have thousands of articles about dead people, ruined cities, extinct animals, countries, empires and even entire continents that no longer exist. If it was notable once it is notable for ever. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:28, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hi,
From what I can tell most articles don't keep the website information if the website is no longer active. What you can do is add a snapshot of the website from the Wayback Machine to the External links section. I believe the most recent working snapshot of the website in question is this (4th of July). Rayna Jaymes (talk) 16:32, 7 October 2014 (UTC)- We still keep information about notable events that are no longer current, as we are an encyclopedia. For example, we still keep Ancient Greek because it provide useful historical information, just like we keep Albert Einstein even though he is no longer living. Similarly, the page will still remain even though the show is cancelled. Thanks, Darylgolden(talk) 06:56, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
Helen Keller
[edit]- I'm not sure if this is true or not, I was informed that she was raped and the perpetrator cut off her tongue. They did not want her able to identify them. I knew she was deaf and blind, can you please research this story verify if it is true or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.68.84.254 (talk) 18:04, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- It's not: Hellen Keller learned to speak (public speaking, no less), and there has never been any mention of abuse. This kind of question is better suited to the reference desk. This speculation appears to just be a salacious rumor. Acroterion (talk) 18:10, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- The talk page of the article may yield results as well. Britmax (talk) 18:13, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Your informant was probably confusing Keller with Philomela. Deor (talk) 21:26, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Perfectly understandable, since a minor figure from Greek mythology has so much in common with a blind, deaf, 20th century American woman. ‑‑Mandruss (talk) 07:50, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
Unprotecting/redirecting articles
[edit]I'd like to request two redirects but the pages are currently protected from being created (1990s wrestling boom to Monday Night Wars and RD Reynolds to R. D. Reynolds). Where would I go to request that these articles be unlocked? Thanks. 72.74.198.78 (talk) 18:15, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- Suggest you contact any administrator direct and explain why you want to recreate these pages - there doesn't appear to be a specific noticeboard for these cases. See WP:SALT: Noyster (talk), 14:13, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
CrowdFlower
[edit]While browsing CrowdFlower's wikipedia page, CrowdFlower, a note at the top stated: "This article appears to be written like an advertisement. Please help improve it by rewriting promotional content from a neutral point of view and removing any inappropriate external links. (July 2014)" -- after modifying it to have a more neutral tone, the message remained. What specifically can be done to ensure it aligns with Wikipedia's style guide so this advertisement notification is taken down? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tenzingsherpa (talk • contribs) 19:19, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- @Tenzingsherpa: Those templates have to be manually removed. There is no bot that goes around cleaning them up. If you feel that you've addressed the issue that a tag points out, you are welcome to remove the tag. If someone disagrees, then they are also welcome to put it back. Before edit warring over the removal/reposting/removal, it is strongly suggested that you discuss the presence of the tag with the other editor who puts it back. i need help to write article
[edit]i need help to write article about famous Pakistani trend change Film tv director producer writer Muhammad Javaid Fazil — Preceding unsigned comment added by AdnanJavaidfazil (talk • contribs) 22:56, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
- The first thing you should do is begin collecting the reliably published sources that discuss your topic so that you are sure it meets the basic requirements for a stand alone article. Once you have those handy, you can follow the Wikipedia:Article wizard. When you have your first try completed, then you can go to pages like Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers or Wikipedia talk:Notice board for Pakistan-related topics to find experienced editors familiar with the general subject area who can help you shape up the article towards Wikipedia standards.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:12, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
