The official language of Gibraltar is English, and is used by the Government and in schools. Most locals are bilingual, also speaking Spanish, due to Gibraltar's proximity to Spain. However, because of the varied mix of ethnic groups which reside there, other languages are also spoken on the Rock. Berber and Arabic are spoken by the Moroccan community, as are Hindi and Sindhi by the Indian community of Gibraltar. Hebrew is also spoken by the Jewish community and the Maltese language is still spoken by some families of Maltese descent.
GibraltarpediA is the first Wikipedia project to not only embrace a whole city, but also aspires to bridge two continents. This is a very large WikiProject; it's at least three times the size of MonmouthpediA.
“
Bringing a whole town to life on Wikipedia is something new and is a testament to the forward-thinking people of Monmouth, all of the volunteers and the Wikimedia UK team. I’m looking forward to seeing other towns and cities doing the same thing. - Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia.[2]

GibraltarpediA uses QRpedia codes, a type of bar code a smartphone can read through its camera that takes you to a Wikipedia article in your language. QR codes are extremely useful, as physical signs have no way of displaying the same amount of information and in a potentially huge number of languages.
Anne has been one of the major contributors to the Gibraltarpedia project as she was to its predecessor Monmouthpedia. She is well known for creating very well researched articles in a short time. A researcher in Gibraltar was astounded to find that Anne created a full article on a subject that he could find no material on - and he lived in Gibraltar!
Dr Blofeld sounds evil and appears evil ... but he is actually a very productive Wikipedian who may soon be the first person to have 1000 articles they have written on the front page of Wikipedia. Dr Blofeld has been an unflinching supporter of the project.

Although it clashed with my university examinations (on multiple occasions), I still managed to create a good number of articles on Hindi Wikipedia. Roger, John and Tyson are very great people and working with them was a new level of editing experience.
Why you like Wikipedia Many reasons: free, online, collaborative and multilingual project.

Why have you contributed to GibraltarpediA
For team spirit. I had fun in Derby Challenge, and when this one started many of my wiki-friends contributed too. Many of our contributions are not visible in points, either because so many contributed, or because they are too short. But I wish some tourists will get surprised !
Why you like WIkipedia
I think an encyclopedia is a great place to find information about a foreign place, and an online encyclopedia can beat printed ones by being updated about revolutions and energy sources rather quickly. My work makes me to travel to rather exotic places, and I have been proud to hear that both my co-workers and their parents have been reading the Finnish wiki-pages of these (many of them which are labelled "above average quality"). See fi:Kirja:Maailman_valtiot - featured in yellow, good in green, OK in blue. Not my work alone but together with friends.
Al Lemos is the nickname of... a former programmer :) I started at the Portuguese Wikipedia in 2006, but in 2009 I had moved in, bag and baggage, to Viquipèdia, to learn Catalan... and I'm still there today.
Work with Victuallers it's always a great pleasure and guaranteed fun. But is a synonym of hard work too :) I practically gave up when the challenge began to interfere with my studies (I went back to university this year)...
Why you like WIkipedia
Because, with a little effort, we have the opportunity to teach hundreds and thousands of people!

When it's time to contribute to Wikipedia I tend not to write about things I like in real life. I have translated and written featured articles which range from hagiography to railway transport.
Why have you contributed to GibraltarpediA
I didn't have as much time as needed to contribute as I wanted to, but anyway I wanted to participate because I liked the idea behind it, and also I already had participated in a similar project (Derby Museum) and had the chance to visit it back in 2011.
Why you like Wikipedia
For many things but mainly because I learn a lot!

Why have you contributed to GibraltarpediA? Err... Just for fun. I was looking for something productive in Wikipedia (similar to MonmouthpediA), and then I found GibraltarpediA.
Why do you like Wikipedia? I don't know. Somehow it stuck with me and, as time passes, I became addicted to it.
