Speedy deletion declined: Indalo (band)
Hello Vinegarymass911. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Indalo (band), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: promotional language is minimal and can be addressed by editing. Coverage in multiple RS indicates significance. Thank you. SoWhy 14:18, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
Feb 2019
Hi Vinegarymass911 thanks for your feedback. My edit was from a neutral point of view which is why I want to explain my rational point of view in the following.
For any persons living biography, there should be a proper introduction, early life, career, personal life.
However, here in this profile, we can see a career paragraph of one line with an incorrect citation. "He is the Chairman of Premier Bank Limited" has been cited with this link to the daily star news proves that the previous editor was biased and has a sole intention to deframe the individual. Within this paragraph, you can also see that this line "he is the vice-president of Dhaka city Awami league" has been wrongly quoted with this citation, "Rising high the audacity" doesn't make any sense.
We can also see that instead of early life or personal life, the editor quickly jumps to controversy' which btw is the biggest part of the bio of this individual. This individual was wrongly charged, as he was a target of a political game. He was acquited from the high court. Here is the news, "High Court acquits HBM Iqbal’s family of charges" by the Daily Sun.
The previous editor also mentioned an irrelevant topic in the individuals' controversy. "His 16 year old nephew crashed his car in Gulshan, Dhaka in 2016. He was under the influence of alcohol, four people were injured in the accident. The boy was not charged but taken to safety by Bangladesh police.", doesn't have any connection to his bio and neither was he of any influence in this incident.
"In 2007 he was charged with corruption by the Bangladesh Anti Corruption Commission." from the controversy portion of the individual has been proved wrong by High court.
On 20th May 2018 the High Court Division in Criminal Appeal No. 2602/2017 observed that the family members of Dr. HBM Iqbal were the dependents of him and consequently the allegation under section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2004 is not applicable against them. by the Daily Sun.
From the information provided above, I strongly believe the existing bio is inaccurate and misleading along with outdated news sources. Since this is a community for everyone, I believe we should not give any room for biased biography. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Papyrus cyrus (talk • contribs) 03:58, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
Feedback for neutrality
Hi Vinegarymass911, I've been watching you undo my edits by giving an explanation that the article has to be neutral. Exactly what part of my edit is not neutral on this article HBM Iqbal? Need your feedback or help because the person is facing severe difficulty because of the deframed article in his personal life. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Papyrus cyrus (talk • contribs) 01:39, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks a ton!
Thanks Vinegarymass911 for the help and suggestions. Is it alright if I edit the article to make it more neutral by removing words like "Multi-Dimensional Corporate personality", " Multi-Dimensional Corporate Body" and use "Corporate personality" instead? Also, you can suggest me on updating parts of the links that should be removed to make it look at a neutral point.
On the previous version, the bio had mostly mentioned about his controversies which were based on yellow journalism and he was a bait to that. Thus, being a member of the wiki family I felt to take on to this project to make it a better piece.
I will be honored and privileged if you can adopt me for your projects. This will act as a learning curve for me. Please let me know how to do that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Papyrus cyrus (talk • contribs) 06:11, 27 February 2019 (UTC) Papyrus cyrus (talk) 09:32, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

Help me to prevent a article deletion
Dear Vinegarymass911 I'm here for help and suggestions. Is it alright if I edit a film production House 's article with trusted sources and news references. Though I'm a journalist of entertainment sector, I'm trying to create and contribute to film related articles. One of them is Dreams In Frame production house and Jaaz Multimedia production house. But I can't understand why this article is being considered for deletion. Can you please help me to learn how can I contribute articles, which will be not deleted. Thanks a lot for your support. ♥ — comment added by Ajairapara 08:10, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
WikiCup 2019 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2. With 56 contestants qualifying, each group in Round 2 contains seven contestants, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for Round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining contestants.
Our top scorers in Round 1 were:
- L293D, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with ten good articles on submarines for a total of 357 points.
- Adam Cuerden, a WikiCup veteran, came next with 274 points, mostly from eight featured pictures, restorations of artwork.
- MPJ-DK, a wrestling enthusiast, was in third place with 263 points, garnered from a featured list, five good articles, two DYKs and four GARs.
- Usernameunique came next at 243, with a featured article and a good article, both on ancient helmets.
- Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
- Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Kazi Nazrul Islam
Hi Vinegarymass911. I have provided a second review of Kazi Nazrul Islam. See Talk:Kazi Nazrul Islam/GA3. Sorry you have had to wait so long. AIRcorn (talk) 12:02, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
- Still awaiting you response to this review. Will probably wait another week or so and then close it. AIRcorn (talk) 18:30, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
- Passed it. Congratulations. Just curious how he should be entered at the WP:GA page. Should it be stylised "Kazi Nazrul Islam", "Nazrul Islam, Kazi" or "Islam, Kazi Nazrul". AIRcorn (talk) 21:57, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. I think a stylized "Kazi Nazrul Islam" would be appropriate.Vinegarymass911 (talk) 01:10, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.17
Hello Vinegarymass911,
- News
- The WMF has announced that Google Translate is now available for translating articles through the content translation tool. This may result in an increase in machine translated articles in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to use the {{rough translation}} tag and gently remind (or inform) editors that translations from other language Wikipedia pages still require attribution per WP:TFOLWP.
- Discussions of interest
- Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
- {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
- A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
- There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
- Reminders
- NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
- NPP Tools Report
- Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
- copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
- The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Speedy deletion contested: Muza (singer)
Hello Vinegarymass911, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Muza (singer), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Makes a credible claim of significance and would not need a fundamental rewrite to become encyclopedic. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. ——SerialNumber54129 09:08, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Thursday April 4 and Friday April 5: Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College | |
Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College is hosting the second annual Wikipedia Translatathon! At this event on Thursday evening and during the day Friday this week, anyone from the public is invited to LaGuardia to join students, professors, and CUNY faculty in translating Wikipedia articles among any languages which attendees understand. Themes for this event include public health and the history of New York City. New York City has a large immigrant population and great diversity of speakers of various languages. Among all schools in New York City, LaGuardia has the highest percentage of immigrant students, the highest percentage of students who speak a language other than English as their first language, and the greatest representation of language diversity. It is a strength of LaGuardia that it can present "Wikipedia translatathons", which are Wikipedia translation events. |

Changes regarding HBM Iqbal
Hi Vinegarymass911, could you please elaborate why my changes are reverted after I provided an adequate edit summary as the article is filled with wrong info and citations(some links are broken), which I corrected and provided credible citations, expanded the article and why my account is being investigated for sockpuppetry. Burair7 (talk) 7:37, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
- Because you assisted a known group of meatpuppets to do precisely what they were trying to do. Burair7, please explain more about "A representative of HBM Iqbal has asked me to made some changes" diff. Why you?
— Berean Hunter (talk) 12:41, 18 April 2019 (UTC) - I apologize, that was not my intention. I just added some information. Berean Hunter, since the article is about a public figure and I'm a contributor here at Wikipedia, a representative asked me to add some information and expand the article. I'm happy to provide proof. If you take a look at the article you'll find that some citations are misplaced and doesn't verify the statement that they're referencing to.diff
— Burair7 (talk) 12:56, 18 April 2019 (UTC)- Since you were canvassed by meatpuppets, your activity with that article has now ended unless you want to be blocked as a meatpuppet. I don't think that your article contribs would be sufficient for someone to randomly pick you.

Please note that WP:A7 says that it "... applies to articles about people, commercial and non-commercial organizations, and individual animals themselves, not to articles about their products...". This article is about a newspaper, which is a product of the company that publishes it, Anamika Publications, so this criterion is inapplicable. Phil Bridger (talk) 07:18, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
WikiCup 2019 May newsletter
The second round of the 2019 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to scored 32 points to advance into round 3. Our top four scorers in round 2 all scored over 400 points and were:
- Cas Liber (1210), our winner in 2016, with two featured articles and three DYKs. He also made good use of the bonus points available, more than doubling his score by choosing appropriate articles to work on.
- Kosack (750), last year's runner up, with an FA, a GA, two FLs, and five DYKs.
- Adam Cuerden (480), a WikiCup veteran, with 16 featured pictures, mostly restorations.
- Zwerg Nase (461), a seasoned competitor, with a FA, a GA and an ITN item.
Other notable performances were put in by Barkeep49 with six GAs, Ceranthor, Lee Vilenski, and Canada Hky, each with seven GARs, and MPJ-DK with a seven item GT.
So far contestants have achieved nine featured articles between them and a splendid 80 good articles. Commendably, 227 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2019 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. The judges are pleased with the thorough GARs that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Hello Vinegarymass911,
- WMF at work on NPP Improvements
Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:
- Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
- Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
- Reliable Sources for NPP
Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.
- Backlog drive coming soon
Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019
Hello Vinegarymass911,
- WMF at work on NPP Improvements
More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.
- QUALITY of REVIEWING
Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.
- Backlog
The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.
- Move to draft
NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.
- Notifying users
Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.
- PERM
Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.
- Other news
School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.
Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

The article Khwaja Nizamuddin Bhuyan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Not likely to be notable, with a single award of the second highest award in Bangladesh, per WP:SOLDIER. Source is tertiary.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The third round of the 2019 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round needed to score at least 68 points, which is substantially lower than last year's 227 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with 500 points derived mainly from a featured article and two GAs on natural history topics
- Adam Cuerden, with 480 points, a tally built on 16 featured pictures, the result of meticulous restoration work
- SounderBruce, a finalist in the last two years, with 306 points from a variety of submissions, mostly related to sport or the State of Washington
- Usernameunique, with 305 points derived from a featured article and two GAs on archaeology and related topics
Contestants managed 4 (5) featured articles, 4 featured lists, 18 featured pictures, 29 good articles, 50 DYK entries, 9 ITN entries, and 39 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and it is imperative to claim them in the correct round; one FA claim had to be rejected because it was incorrectly submitted (claimed in Round 3 when it qualified for Round 2), so be warned! When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. I was passing by as a creep. Don't you think it is oxymoronic to be a fan of Noam Chomsky and advocating free market? THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 20:17, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- As another creepy editor who happens to have this page watchlisted I would say that it's certainly not. I first became aware of Noam Chomsky a very long time ago as the man who revolutionised the study of linguistics. Being a fan of his does not necessarily involve agreeing with all of his political opinions. Phil Bridger (talk) 20:26, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello Vinegarymass911. I declined your CSD tag because the content on their user page was specifically about their username and participation on Wikipedia. It was not unrelated to their activity here. Page mover granted
Hello, Vinegarymass911. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.
Useful links:

@Vinegarymass911: Hey, I provided at least one verified source for each article. I think all of my created articles are enough notable to be here! That's why I still commenting about those articles , I didn’t put any non-notable article. Every article have indvidual at least one verified source about book released. And this book released in national book fair so It's enough notable. Ekushey Book Fair doesn’t publish any non-notable book. All the books are verified by administrator and all verified publisher can publish book in national book fair. And I gave promotional link just like rokomari just because of isbn number, I know that admin will later remove this link after see the isbn number. But I removed this now. I request to you please remove afd and keep this articles which is truly notable. Just review one more time all of the articles now, If you think this are verified independent news then keep. One article already (two deleted comment) given by admin ,later I added a link and removed rokomari link so please verify! And this article about Mashrafe Mortaza, without his permission book didn’t released just because of he his the copyright owner of his name where to be used. IF any book published by his (Mashrafe Mortaza's) permission then it is significant. And It’s not good to finish anyone interest to create articles. There have many articles which is not enough notable/unsourced but no one bother to remove this but all are interest to remove article if less source or something wrong! Waiting for your reply, Thanks Rasi56 (talk) 11:50, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
- Rasi56, I shouldn't say it here but if pay some money to some publisher they will publish your book in ekushey book fair (i'm not saying everyone do that but if you want you can publish your book too). It's not a big deal to publish a book in book fair. Every year thousand books published in Ekushey Book Fair, so it's not enough for notability. Those sources you mention may be verified news website but in this case the sources are "promotional/press release" type. e.g. see this & just click আরও পড়ুন, you will see they publish hundred of book releasing (press release type) news (in ekushey book fair). Those books “got zero significant coverage” and has no review from reliable and independent third party sources. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 17:10, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
Redirection Bangladesh town
You asked me that if i edited Wikipedia with an ip address? No, i didn't. this is not the place for asking this but I can resist anymore! Are you from Bangladesh? I just wanted to know. But as I am new in Wikipedia i just wanted to know a thing. how can I create a page which is already redirected to another page. Like, I want to create an article about Netrokona city. But the name "Netrokona" is already redirected to Netrokona District. But in reality you and I both know that Netrokona (city) and Netrokona district are not the same thing. Then why Netrokona which is a city should remain as redirected redirected to Netrokona district. I also wanted to know how I can create a article which is already redirected to another article as I given an example of Netrokona which is redirected to Netrokona district. Please explain me Great Hero32 (talk) 07:20, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
I asked you something! Please answer!Great Hero32 (talk) 21:16, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Great Hero32: Your enthusiasm about editing Bangladeshi topics is great, but creating large numbers of settlement articles with little content, when that content is or could be covered in existing articles, is a lazy way to expand the encyclopedia without really improving it. Similar past endeavours have left WikiProject Bangladesh littered with poor quality stubs about union parishads and villages, topics that would be better covered in the form of a list, as a gazetteer does.
- Wikipedia favours large, comprehensive articles. If you want to write about Netrokona (the city), start with a few paragraphs about it in the Geography section of Netrokona District. If the city information grows much larger than that, and starts to overwhelm the district information, then it can be spun off into its own article. (For most Bangladeshi cities and towns, that's unlikely, there simply aren't enough reliable sources to write a meaningful and reasonably complete article about them). Until there's substantial information it's perfectly fine to cover both the city and the district in the same article, even thought they aren't the same thing. Encyclopedias do that all the time. The Netrokona redirect exists so that readers interested in the city are sent to an article that contains relevant information within a broader topic. --Worldbruce (talk) 22:22, 6 September 2019 (UTC) (Talk page stalker)
- @Worldbruce: I understand what you said. From the view of yours when the city information grows much larger than district, and starts to overwhelm the district information, then it can be spun off into its own article. But how? The city page is already redirected to district page. Then if I want to create a city page i have to redirect the district page and then undoing this redirect so that i can get the city page to write it's article. Then you will say redirecting and then undoing that redirect is not acceptable. Then how city article can be created?

- Hello thanks for your review I appreciate that you took the time to do it. I added references from Variety, filmmaker magazine and the houston press. Variety and Filmmaker magazine are considered reliable secondary source in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Film. IndieWire too but I don't know about The NY times and Houston Press, are there considered reliable? How much coverage does mark need or what part of the article is poorly referenced? I think that he has been granted 3 fellowship by notable and known institutions of art, does this make him notable enought for the encyclopedia? Sorry for making so many questions. WikiCup 2019 September newsletter
The fourth round of the competition has finished in a flurry of last minute activity, with 454 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants with over 400 points being eliminated, and all but two of the finalists having achieved an FA during the round. Casliber, our 2016 winner, was the highest point-scorer, followed by Enwebb and Lee Vilenski, who are both new to the competition. In fourth place was SounderBruce, a finalist last year. But all those points are swept away as we start afresh for the final round.
Round 4 saw the achievement of 11 featured articles. In addition, Adam Cuerden scored with 18 FPs, Lee Vilenski led the GA score with 8 GAs while Kosack performed 15 GA reviews. There were around 40 DYKs, 40 GARs and 31 GAs overall during round 4. Even though contestants performed more GARs than they achieved GAs, there was still some frustration at the length of time taken to get articles reviewed.
As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them (some people have fallen foul of this rule and the points have been removed).
If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019
Hello Vinegarymass911,
- Backlog
Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
- Coordinator
A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.
- This month's refresher course
Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.
- Deletion tags
Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.
- Paid editing
Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
- Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
- Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
- Not English
- A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
- Tools
Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.
Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.
Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.
DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.
Go here to remove your name if you wish to opt-out of future mailings.

Hello, Vinegarymass911,
I noticed that you just moved this article into draft space. When you do so, always leave a note informing the article creator that their article has been moved and where they can find it. Otherwise, they may not know what has happened to it. It's just wiki etiquette. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 21:28, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter November 2019
Hello Vinegarymass911,
This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.
- Getting the queue to 0
There are now 811 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.
- Coordinator
Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.
- This month's refresher course
Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.
- Tools
- It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
- It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
- Reviewer Feedback
Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.
- Second set of eyes
- Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
- Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
- Arbitration Committee
The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.
- Community Wish list
There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

Saturday Nov 16: Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ Metropolitan Museum of Art
Saturday November 16, 12:30 pm - 4:30pm: Metropolitan Museum of Art Edit-a-thon | |
---|---|
The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday November 16, 2019 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. The museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse Asian collections onsite and remotely. Asia Art Archive will host a sister event in Hong Kong next week.
Thanks, and hope to see you there! --Wikimedia New York City Team 16:46, 14 November 2019 (UTC) |

New Page Review newsletter December 2019
- Reviewer of the Year
This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.
Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.
Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.
Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

- Redirect autopatrol
A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.
- Source Guide Discussion
Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.
- This month's refresher course
While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Newspapers published in Chittagong
A tag has been placed on Category:Newspapers published in Chittagong requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Welcome to the 2020 WikiCup!
Happy New Year, Happy New Decade and Happy New WikiCup! The competition begins today and all article creators, expanders and improvers are welcome to take part. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page. We are relaxing the rule that only content on which you have completed significant work during 2020 will count; now to be eligible for points in the competition, you must have completed significant work on the content at some time! Any questions on the rules or on anything else connected to the Cup should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. Good luck! There is a draft at Draft:Gazi Mohammad Shahjahan Jwel which I was about to delete, but it has a few acceptable sources--they drop the name, that's pretty much all, but they may shed light on the name (Jwel/Jewel). It seems the press use that Jwel/Jewel appellation, but official documents do not: [1], [2], [3]. Maybe these are worth adding. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 15:43, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020
Hello Vinegarymass911,
- Source Guide Discussion
The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.
- Redirects
New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.
- Discussions and Resources
- There is an ongoing discussion around changing notifications for new editors who attempt to write articles.
- A recent discussion of whether Michelin starred restraunts are notable was archived without closure.
- A resource page with links pertinent for reviewers was created this month.
- A proposal to increase the scope of G5 was withdrawn.
- Refresher
Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

WikiCup 2020 March newsletter
And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 57 contestants qualifying. We have abolished the groups this year, so to qualify for Round 3 you will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two contestants.
Our top scorers in Round 1 were:
- Epicgenius, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with a featured article, five good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 895 points.
- Gog the Mild came next with 464 points, from a featured article, two good articles and a number of reviews, the main theme being naval warfare.
- Raymie was in third place with 419 points, garnered from one good article and an impressive 34 DYKs on radio and TV stations in the United States.
- Harrias came next at 414, with a featured article and three good articles, an English civil war battle specialist.
- CaptainEek was in fifth place with 405 points, mostly garnered from bringing Cactus wren to featured article status.
- The top ten contestants at the end of Round 1 all scored over 200 points; they also included L293D, Kingsif, Enwebb, Lee Vilenski and CAPTAIN MEDUSA. Seven of the top ten contestants in Round 1 are new to the WikiCup.
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. In Round 1 there were four featured articles, one featured list and two featured pictures, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. Between them, contestants completed 127 good article reviews, nearly a hundred more than the 43 good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Contestants also claimed for 40 featured article / featured list reviews, and most even remembered to mention their WikiCup participation in their reviews (a requirement).
Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them.
Good luck! WikiCup newsletter correction
There was an error in the WikiCup 2020 March newsletter; L293D should not have been included in the list of top ten scorers in Round 1 (they led the list last year), instead, Dunkleosteus77 should have been included, having garnered 334 points from five good articles on animals, living or extinct, and various reviews. WikiCup 2020 May newsletter
The second round of the 2020 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 75 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top ten contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 186 good articles achieved in total by contestants, and the 355 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
- Epicgenius, with 2333 points from one featured article, forty-five good articles, fourteen DYKs and plenty of bonus points
- Gog the Mild, with 1784 points from three featured articles, eight good articles, a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews and lots of bonus points
- The Rambling Man, with 1262 points from two featured articles, eight good articles and a hundred good article reviews
- Harrias, with 1141 points from two featured articles, three featured lists, ten good articles, nine DYKs and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews
- Lee Vilenski with 869 points, Hog Farm with 801, Kingsif with 719, SounderBruce with 710, Dunkleosteus77 with 608 and MX with 515.
The rules for featured article reviews have been adjusted; reviews may cover three aspects of the article, content, images and sources, and contestants may receive points for each of these three types of review. Please also remember the requirement to mention the WikiCup when undertaking an FAR for which you intend to claim points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
Good luck! Disagreement regarding Bayazid of Sylhet assessment
I don't usually contest when one of my articles gets assessed, but naming Bayazid of Sylhet as a "stub" seemed kinda harsh to me. I thought the length, coverage and writing more warranted a "start" assessment, but if you still disagree, I won't pursue the matter. Thanks.

Wow, Vinegarymass911, thank you so much for the unexpected and warm welcome!
I am brand new to wikipedia and appreciate any feedback at all. You seem to be a super-user, so I hope you don't mind my asking a few questions. My biggest question with the page I am trying to create is whether it's possible to use sources that are older and therefore not online (for example pictures of Daily Star articles from 1998 / 2002).
For the post about Iqbal Ahmed, I have recent articles about his winning the Rabindra Purashkar last year, and I have online links to his albums from the Bengal Foundation, but all of the older information is harder to source. Any tips would be much appreciated.
I also am unfamiliar with the wikipedia syntax (thank you for the note about signing with the tildes!) so may have done things incorrectly in the post
Thank you again! The picture of the pitha brought a huge smile to my face! Treenyahmed (talk) 02:16, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice
Hi Vinegarymass911, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.
Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.
To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!
Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Draft:Igor Melnik
Hi Vinegarymass911, the reason why you declined the article Draft:Igor Melnik is clear. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the borders are closed, some materials about Mr. Melnik are unavailable to me now. I live in Germany, and the archive is in Ukraine. As soon as I can add links from this archive, after about a month, I hope that publication will be possible. However, I want to draw your attention to the fact that all expeditions of Mr. Melnik were carried out in the Black and Mediterranean Seas, in the Atlantic and along the rivers of Europe. Precisely because of this, I do not have independent sources of information in English. These are mainly newspapers and magazines in Russian, Ukrainian, French, German, Italien etc. Will there be enough of these sources to publish the Article?--Pavel Goncharuk (talk) 09:49, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:1884 establishments in British India
A tag has been placed on Category:1884 establishments in British India requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Talk! 14:37, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Hey! How are you doing? I have written this article (Draft:UNICEF Bangladesh Country Office) based on WikiProject Bangladesh. I have checked similar articles before writing this one. I have followed the same writing style. Do I need to add some other sources only? Please guide me more.
Thanks & Regards!
- Hey Vinegarymass911, I really appreciate your help. I have already added some sources to the article. Will submit within today.
Request
Please use {{reflist}}
insted of {{reflist|2}}
. Because of this reference gets broken into two parts, even where it doesn't needed. Also {{reflist}}
has an automatic feature, if an articles has more than 10 refs, it automatically divides reference into two parts. Thanks. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 22:54, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
Draft Article: Dean Rickles
Vinegarymass911: When I go looking for information about a scholar and it is not part of Wikipedia, I ask, "Should it be? Is this work worthy." I started the Dean Rickles article because I was finding so many references to his published articles and books within postings within Wikipedia, I finally clicked on his name, an active link within a Wikipedia article, and it said that there was no entry for Dean Rickles, you can either request that it be created or create it yourself. So, I started the article and then asked for help from several of Rickles collaborators just to be sure it was on track. There are currently eighteen references. Do you think it needs more? Thanks & warm regards! -Bruce

New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020
Hello Vinegarymass911,
- Your help can make a difference
NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.
- Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate
In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.
- Discussions and Resources
- A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
- Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
- A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
- Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Hi, just FYI,
Re the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman page, and your edit here.
I was doing a big series of edits there, and I had already tried Ayub Khan, but the real Ayub 'Khaaaaaan!' In this case is …… Ayub Khan (general). Which I fixed here.

WikiCup 2020 July newsletter
The third round of the 2020 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it into the fourth round each had at least 353 points (compared to 68 in 2019). It was a highly competitive round, and a number of contestants were eliminated who would have moved on in earlier years. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- Epicgenius, with one featured article, 28 good articles and 17 DYKs, amassing 1836 points
- The Rambling Man , with 1672 points gained from four featured articles and seventeen good articles, plus reviews of a large number of FACs and GAs
- Gog the Mild, a first time contestant, with 1540 points, a tally built largely on 4 featured articles and related bonus points.
Between them, contestants managed 14 featured articles, 9 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 152 good articles, 136 DYK entries, 55 ITN entries, 65 featured article candidate reviews and 221 good article reviews. Additionally, MPJ-DK added 3 items to featured topics and 44 to good topics. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 710 good article reviews, in comparison to 387 good articles submitted for review and promoted. These large numbers are probably linked to a GAN backlog drive in April and May, and the changed patterns of editing during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.
Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Abraruddin Ahmed Siddiky
Thanks for starting this page, however, Abraruddin Ahmed Siddiky was a member of the Baliadi Zamindar family but not the Zamindar. The Zamindar of his time was his cousin Chowdhury Labibuddin Ahmed Siddiky who also owned the Manasi cinema. The information you have is wrong. Please correct it. I will not do it because I do not want to get into a dispute with any stranger in Wikipedia. This is the only correspondence you will have from me so you need not reply or ping me. Speedy deletion nomination of Mohammad Wahidul Haque
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Mohammad Wahidul Haque requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. A. Shohag 07:02, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiky
This page was deleted last year after wikipedia speedy deletion discussion. Like to know how it could be undeleted and improved. A draft was prepared with an improved version that was deleted on July 22, 2020. Notability was the issue for deletion last year. We have since found citations and sources to create a notable wikipedia page for this subject. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LennyBernstein (talk • contribs) 20:10, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

I started an article about Dean Rickles because he was a primary source for articles on string theory within Wikipedia and when I click on his name, it said that there was no such entry.
Now, I'll edit out my own verbosity. I'll look further at his published work. But, if you don't like Rickles for some reason, you know more than I do. He certainly has many more reasons to be in Wikipedia than many others I have read. -Bruce Camber
